infact i supply the eggs for my family to use as my friend has chickens and i buy the eggs from her cheaper than in the supermarkets and nicer!

I buy biscuits for the whole family and as my mum and dad only have white bread i always buy my own brown bread which my mum and dad will sometimes use too.

But no i can honestly say i never use anything of theirs. I forgot to mention that i buy the toothpaste and loo rolls and soap for everyone to use too - but i know that doesnt cost much.

In that case £25 per week was far too generous. I would have offered £16.43.

If your parents are struggling then find out how much they need. If you can afford to give it to them then do that. This isn't really about what it costs them to keep you as they didn't want that when they ere financially okay, but now they need help and have asked you for it. I hope it works out amicably.

Can I ask why you are doing your own washing? Surely that wastes money doing a load of lights, darks, whites etc just with your clothes. Either that or you have an awful lot of clothes :D

They have been helping you over the past months while they are able to do so. Now it seems they need some help from you. You are obviously in a position to do so because they have enabled you to almost completely cut out housing costs. Try to find out what they need, certainly give them more than you think it costs them to have you there. Look at it this way council tax is one bill you have cut out entirely so perhaps start with this amount on top of costs and see if that figure will help them. I would be feeling unappreciated if I were them that you seem unwilling to repay there generousity in a small way.

I live alone, I don't take in other people's laundry just to make it more economical! ;)

No, but one person doing their own washing doesn't have to mean its wasteful!

I live alone too, and I always do full loads, just less often than a family I guess. I also never separate into whites, colours....Everything goes in together, never had a problem! If I lived with someone it wouldn't occur to me to do smaller loads more often just so we can share. It works out the same.

I would say at least £50-60 a week, although it depends what you earn? £25 is ridiculous if you think about how much it will be costing your parents to run the house.

I can't see it being not wasteful if there is an alternative.

One full load of washing rather than a half load etc is surely the most economical.
