Now what would BA do in this situation?
They surely wouldn't leave passengers wondering what they can and can't take into the cabin would they?

"A 23kg (51lb) weight limit applies to all hand baggage and you must be able to lift the bag into the overhead locker.

"Occasionally we may not have space to stow all hand baggage safely on the aircraft and you may be asked at the boarding gate to check some or all of your hand baggage into the hold. If the baggage is within you permitted allowance, you will not be charged for extra baggage."

Looks like BA won't guarantee anything at all, not even a handbag full of tissues and Werther's Originals and they won't stipulate what you can and can't take on board.
At least EJ guarantee a certain size.

There's absolutely nothing new about what EJ are doing, others have had similar clauses for years.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

awfully sorry, I have MS, and i may have not read all of it, i was trying to be helpful any reason for the curt reply?
Because others have already done the same in this thread in quoting the stated part of Easyjet's policy without shedding any light on the unstated part. Such posts serve only to add unnecessary noise.

The problem is that if you get a longish thread you'll get a mixture of posters and readers.
Some take it all very seriously and want a greater order to it, other don't really care too much.
Just keep posting whatever you feel is needed or wanted, don't worry too much about the control freaks

Easy Jet took my cabin baggage from me at the gate to put in the hold, but the staff did give me a small bag to put my essentials in, which included a book and medicines. What I could take on board was very limited. The biggest inconvenience to me was having to wait nearly a hour for my desiginated cabin baggage to come off the conveyor belt at Gatwick, which was time wasted. In future if I am in a rush then I will ensure I take the cabin baggage size that Easy Jet guarantee will be allowed on the aircraft. I do agree with other contributors that it would be helpful if EasyJet covered this point more thoroughly on their website as it does appear what you can take on the aircraft differs a lot depending on the staff if your cabin baggage in put in the hold. It may be an advantage, if you pay for Speedy Boarding as the you are first on the aircraft. It does seem the later you board the more the likleyhood you will have your "Larger Size" cabin baggage put in the hold.
  • Maybe I have been lucky but since the new rules came in my cabin baggage has remained with me on the four Easy Jets flights I have taken.

Our cabin baggage was taken from us in Amsterdam and put in the hold without warning. We were allowed to take some items out and put in a small bag to take on board with us. A book ,medicines and a bottle of water which we had purchased airside and that was our lot .It was certainly inconvenient and even the staff did not seem to know the rules. We were one of the last to board so that could have some bearing.

I see that two of you say that Easyjet didn't allow you to take much from your cabin baggage before it was put into the hold. What was stopping you from taking more out and putting it in your pockets for example? What was to stop you from wandering away out of sight to repack your bag?
  • When my husband and myself travel by Easyjet one of takes the smaller sized hand luggage which is guaranteed to go on board with you and the other takes the larger size of hand luggage which can be placed in the hold. We put anything we might require on the flight in the smaller hand baggage. We have seen instances where Easyjet staff take the larger sized hand luggage from passengers and put it in the hold. It did happen to us once and that is why we take the action mentioned. The original point of this forum was Easyjet should publish on their website, if the hand luggage is taken from you what you will be allowed to take out of the case to carry onto the aircraft. I think this is a very salient point and is something that EasyJet should implement. Then we all know exactly where we stand on this issue.
