Under the new EasyJet rules you are still able to book in the old size hand luggage without any additional charge. However it can be put in the hold and not the cabin. If that is the case are you still allowed to take your Hand Bag and medicines onto the aircraft, as the original rules stated only one piece of hand luggage which must include your hand bag being put in your hand luggage or do you have to purchase the smaller size case to guarantee being permitted to take your hand bag ands medicines on board with you.

They give you a bag to put anything you need in and take with you in the cabin.
when I say 'bag' I mean carrier

As Moto2 says or very quickly pull out your medicines and hand bag out of your case. You get to keep those with you and they will place your larger hand baggage in the hold. They won't charge you for this.
  • If you take your handbag out, they have to charge you for putting the bag in the hold. They're the rules. You can however take out your phone, medicine and a book or whatever. Just not another bag.

It all gets so complicated now, especially with the difference between airlines.
I can hardly be bothered now booking a 99p flight which ends up costing me £99 & having no idea just how little I can take away.

It makes loading up as many pairs of shoe, books & bottles into the car & sitting in roadworks on the M6 seem more appealing :)

    Where is this specifically stated?

This would be a breach of Section 13(1) of the Equality Act 2010, because men commonly have pockets in which to put and protect such items, whereas women usually do not, hence their need to carry handbags.

EJ may well do this more than I've seen but of 6 flights with them this year, I'm yet to see them make people put bags in the hold, I've seen them ask people and I've seen some people do it and some refuse but I've not seen them enforce it.

I don't think that's correct. I've put luggage in the hold voluntarily at the gate and have taken a bag out to take on board, the same bag I always take out of my luggage as soon as I get on board anyway.

Ditto above. Not a handbag but a small backpack. Others did the same.

    The horse's mouth says

"If my bag has to go in the hold on a busy flight, will I be charged a hold luggage fee?
    Updated 06/06/2013

No, as long as the bag doesn’t exceed the maximum bag size, you won’t be charged to put your bag in the hold."

  • Just to get it clear in my mind as we are travelling by EasJet later this year. Am I correct is saying passengers will not know until you reach the airport as to whether your luggage will be allowed in the cabin or put into the hold, if you have the previously accepted size of cabin baggage. It does seem very hit and miss and my wife and her handbag being seperated would be a disaster for her. Surely if it fitted into the cabin baggage and then being told in had to go into the hold at no extra cost she should be allowed to take her handbag on the flight with her. I have looked at EasyJet website and cannot find where it rules on this point one way or another.
