What's to stop the owners from subsequently removing the tags so that the bags remain in the cabin?I flew on a full EJ flight recently and they were tagging the larger bags at the gate, just in case they needed to go in the hold. They started doing this when about half the passengers had gone through. When we got on the plane they looked for some tagged bags as they were short of room.0

Nothing. But if they are of the larger size they risk them being re-tagged.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. That may have been your experience, however others have had diifferent experiences.Anything you need for your flight. I saw people taking out books, medicines, tablets, medicines, purses without issue. Cabin staff were telling people to make sure they had their passports with them.
That is the point of this discussion, that there is no published policy
For example:Mikes_The_Name wrote: »We went to Lanzarote earlier this year with the larger size cabin baggage. We were allowed to take them on board. However Easyjet did not allow some passengers to do so and they were only permitted to take any medical supplies on board with them. Whilst we were delighted it does seem unfair that the same rule does not apply to everyone. Perhaps it depends on how early you book in or get to the departure gate. I do agree this issue should be clarified on EasyJets website2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I find Easyjet in general to be excellent and up front with their information, unlike the "Dreaded Ryanair" who we would avoid at all costs. Our last flight with Easyjet, when we had the larger permitted bags that could be placed in the hold, was fine for us . We did check in early and it seems that some passengers who booked in later had their larger bags placed in the hold. Easyjet make the fact that this could happen very clear when booking. However what they do not say is what you are allowed to take out of your larger sized cabin baggage and carry on board with you. We consider it would be very helpfu land fair if they clarified this issue on their website. This issue was the point made at the beginning of the forum. Incidentally, like another contributor on this forum, when we returned from the heat of the Canary Islands the staff made us put on our jackets as we were not allowed to carry them onto the aircraft, which was a bit of a nuisance but not a problem.0

By whom? I understand that the tagging is done by ground staff at the gate, not on board the aircraft. If a passenger removes the tag between the gate and the aircraft, who is going to re-tag the baggage? Who would have measuring equipment and the tags in order to do this?Nothing. But if they are of the larger size they risk them being re-tagged.0

I does seem sensible for Easyjet to post /advise passengers when booking what they would be able to take out of the larger sized cabin baggage should it be taken off at the gate or elsewhere and put in the hold. Then both pasengers and staff would know exactly where they stand with no arguements. I cannot see any objection to this policy then from passengers as the facts would be made clear at the time of booking your flight.0

The cabin staff had spare tags on board. The bags were tagged and passed to a member of staff who was not remaining on the plane (don't know whether they were easyjet staff or airport personel) who took the bags off the plane. They told some people that there was no room in the overheads for their bags and they would go straight into the hold. These were some of the last people to board and they didn't argue. I guess they had been warned it may happen.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. As an aside
Just got back from a rather pleasant month in Tenerife
I noticed at the airport that Ryanair are now advertising that you can take 2 bags into the cabin.
The Spanish airports have always said you can but RA refused to accept it, it looks like some sort of agreement has been reached as it was plastered all over the bag 'size cages' at the gate.
Apologies if this is old news to the regulars, I've been busy doing nothing elsewhere Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

Here is a tip.............put a guaranteed on board size bag 50x40x20 inside a 56x45x25 larger bag, then if they take that from you at the gate...just give them the large bag to put in the hold with its remaining contents and take the smaller bag from inside into the cabin with you.......simplesPolitical?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

This is the new Ryanair policy on all routes. Passengers can take a "second small carry-on bag (35 x 20 x 20cm) on board." It's printed on boarding cards, which could be useful in case staff aren't up to speed and try to enforce the old one bag rule.0
