The nursery teacher who gave me the recipe that I have been using for years, said not to bother with heating it in a pan (mind you microwave is a good idea). I just use boiling water instead and it does the trick.

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

No it's not essential, try it without and see how you go. Its usually next to the baking powder/bicarb of soda and in a similar pot.

  • I'm planning to make some playdough as an extra little present for a toddler family member for Christmas. I used to make it for my own children when they were small, and know it was a cooked recipe I used (as I believe it lasts longer), but I don't seem to have it any more. Many of the recipes I've seen online are either for 'no-cook' playdough, or give US measurements in cups, which I always find thoroughly confusing. Does anyone have a recipe for cooked playdough in either imperial or metric weights please?

Failing that I'll have to give it a go with the US recipes I suppose!

  • Thank you. That actually is very helpful - as it's specific about what you're measuring, it makes it possible to convert volume measures to weight measures. It should prove useful for future reference in other recipes too.:T

  • This is my mother-in-law's recipe:

    1 cup plain flour
1 cup water (add food colouring to the water if required)
    1/2 cup salt
    1 tbsp cooking oil
    2 tsp cream of tartar

Mix the ingredients together in a large saucepan, stir over a low heat until it turns in to playdough.

I know it's measured in cups, but it works. I just use a normal mug to measure & it's worked every time so far.
