  • Hi all

Me and hubby have been ttc for 10 years now with no success

We have had some tests and been told there is no medical reason for not conceiving and that we are just unlucky

So I live in hope that one day my miracle will happen and would love to join this group as you seem like a friendly lot :)
  • littleme82 and mrsdavo - I went into Clomid naively thinking it would work as well. We've done 6 cycles now with no success - I know that I definitely ovulated on the first two cycles (they were monitored) but I'm not sure about the other four.
DH has low count in all three areas so there probably wasn't much chance it would work anyway!

Gelly123 and babywanted - hello and welcome, sorry you find yourself here

mrsdavo - my BMI is 29 as well but the policy at our clinic is 30 or below. Fingers crossed that they say 29 is fine x

AFM - We're just waiting for a date to come through to see the chief fertility consultant and for our funding to (hopefully) be confirmed. At our last appointment they said they'd be recommending the nasal spray instead of the initial injections and also recommending that our IVF is half and half - half ICSI and half IVF.

It's really interesting reading everyone's experiences and feelings about the different drugs used! x

T2D - the Synarel is Nafarelin Acetate which is essentially the same as Buserelin but in a nasal spray rather than injectable I think. I don't know why but our clinic offers spray first unless for some reason you don't get on with on it and then you can inject but seems the norm for most clinics to offer the injectable. I think the two are interchangeable.

With you on the bleeding, I think another joyous side effect of the Buserelin/Nafarelin is to make it heavier somehow! :( Hope it stops for you soon, wish mine would b*gger off aswell, it's carp.

Thank you so much. That really puts my mind to rest.

I have an appointment for a scan tomorrow, so that will decide if we go ahead properly. I emailled them, and said 'I'm CD5, taking Buserelin since CD2.. etc'. The nurse called to say 'what does CD mean?' ! :rotfl:

I think we forget not everyone in the world know our 'language'.

ICSI *might* carry a higher risk of 'issues' than IVF. In IVF the egg and sperm are simply mixed together with no intervention. Because nature's clever, the most viable and healthy sperm are statistically more likely to fertilise the egg. In ICSI the andrologist selects the sperm (obviously choosing the one(s) that look the most healthy) so is effectively trying to emulate this natural selection process. Unfortunately the andrologist's eye is not as perfect as nature hence the likelihood of a completely healthy sperm fertilising the egg is slightly lower than in IVF.

Additionally, ICSI is already being used in situations where the man's sperm is not top, top quality so proportionally there are probably higher rates of poorer grade sperm anyway.

These differences are tiny and will only be noticeable when you look at large volumes of data. For the individual undergoing ICSI rather than IVF the increased risk of genetic abnormality is statistically negligible. Your chances of having a healthy baby if you have ICSI or IVF or any other fertility treatment are, to all intents and purposes, the same as if you fell pregnant naturally.

Actually (from my wealth of experience gained from a single TV show) they select non-abnormal ones, but of the 'normal ones', they then go for the one that is easiest to catch! So it would naturally have lower mobility (or motility, whichever is the right word).

I saw it on the IVF show about the Hewitt centre, and I was a little surprised it was the slowest that got picked rather than the fastest.

    Hey ladies,

Back from the appointment, and it was like I expected really. Although we did get to see the actual woman today who is the big wig there!

The weight is an issue, but she said she was happy with OH's sperm!! Which was news to us. Apparently he's ok.

Me - They've put me on Metformin, 500mg for 2 weeks, then up it to 1000mg then up again in a few weeks to 1500my per day. And I've to cut out all carbs......how am I going to do that when they make up a huge proportion of our diet?? Anyone got any nice recipes?

Going back to see her on 5th Feb 14, and if I am not pregnant by then by myself and weight loss, then we will go back on the Clomid for another 3 months.

Basically " Your fat, go away and lose weight" - I knew it was coming but somehow seems a but like a kick in the teeth - I mean it's annoying that DH doesn't have to do anything and its all down to me? Feels like I'm to blame for being fat?

    My Update:

Metformin for 3 months daily, back to FS on 5/2/14.

hi babywanted and welcome to the forum. Sorry you are here and that you have had a rough ride of things. What tests have you had done and what are the next steps for you, if you know?

MrsDavo - big hugs, that sucks. So its lose weight and then wait and see? If your BMI is 29, do they really think that is what's causing things, as 29 is not that high. Cutting out carbs seems extreme. I'm going to see a nutritionist today about eating well for fertility so I'll ask about carbs and will come back to you.

frozenpenguin - hope your appointment come around fast.

    xx

MrsDavo TTC#1 (together) since 01/2011. 25, OH : 35. I have 6yr old girl, he has 4yr old girl both from different relationships. MMC April 2012. Diagnosed PCOS Dec 2012 - i ovulate on my own maybe twice a year! Male slightly low. Tried 3 cycles of Clomid in 2013. Next step: Metformin for 3 months daily, back to FS on 5/2/14.

Hi MrsD - does the above sound right?

I don't think Metformin is a treatment for weight loss. It has a side effect of weight loss, but only as it makes you feel sick sometimes. Doesn't for me (when I took it a while ago).

So it may be that really she is saying - take Metformin as that will help with ovulation, plus losing some weight will also help. At 29 BMI it shouldn't be a big issue, but in the end something is stopping you ovulating on a regular basis, so trying a few ways seems sensible.

As they say - lots of overweight people get pregnant, as we are all differently sensitive to different factors. Don't take it personally!

    **De-lurking**

Mrs Davo, there's a thread for low-carb dieters and it's full of hints, tips and some wonderful recipes. :) I went low-carb a few years back and found it really good, not just for the weight loss but I had loads more energy during the day (no more blood sugar peaks and falls) and found I slept really well. Hair and skin looked fab too! Sadly I fell off the wagon big-time due to lack of time and finances but I'll get back to it one day! :o. Just stick to things like eggs and bacon in the morning, salads or soups for lunch and protein with non starchy veg for your evening meal. There are even recipes for low carb chocolate cake, which with some whipped cream helps the sugar cravings and feels like a major treat! :)

Big hugs to you all, still reading and sending as many wonderful vibes as I can muster your way!
