Morning ladies - friday at last :) Hope everyone has exciting firework plans. Think I'll be sitting at home trying to calm the cat down, poor little thing hates it. Really wanted to go to the firework display in town with OH but he insists on going to stock cars so am feeling even more sorry for myself.

Rant warning......appt yesterday could have gone better. The whole thing felt really rushed, like they were trying to get rid of us tbh (surely now we're paying we should get decent service lol). I know the process itself is the same as last time but I wanted to know about the things that are different - how/when do we pay, how do we get quotes for drugs, etc. Didn't get any answers to that.

They won't do it on the next cycle as they have a really early cut-off for christmas (we'd be looking at EC/ET in their shutdown). But that means that CD2 of the next cycle (when we'd be looking to start, short protocol) will fall over christmas too... so that's out as well. Which means we're looking at the end of Jan before we can even start.... so another birthday will have gone by.

Started buserlin injections on 25th Jan this year (for the cycle they messed up that we shouldn't have started). Looks like we'll be another year on and no nearer. How does this take so long??

Also didn't know till I got there that they needed to do swabs again. She was really rushed and omg it hurt, talk about rough!

Then OH and I fell out on the way home about who was going to cook.

    Great night all round!

    Thanks Rowin xx
Protocol - No nurse didn't say anything actually, I don't know what the difference is between long and short?!

Long protocol starts on day 21 with down regulation then ovarian stimulation then egg collection & embryo transfer. Short protocol starts on day 2 with ovarian stimulation before starting ovulation suppression injections on day 5 then EC & ET; there's no down regulation.

Also short's thought to be less hormonally challenging. Down-regging effectively puts you in a menopausal state with its possible associated symptoms of hot flushes, mood swings etc. I've done both the short and long cycles and didn't find the side effects particularly onerous. Both very difficult emotionally but not physically for me. Guess it depends on the person though.

How annoying. It is also amazing how quickly time goes by isn't it. One year ago today I was heading to the gp for a standard pap smear!

I'm worried they will do that to me too, but if they delay I'll have to cancel. I'm concerned this bleeding is actually AF as bloating is going down and boobs hurting less. No cramps, but if it is AF then I'll need to wait again, and run into their December break too. In heading to Australia in July, so can't start in January. I can delay a bit, so this month would be perfect, any later and we wouldn't get to oz in 2014 probably.

Re the drugs, is love to know if you can source them elsewhere. They are very expensive at my clinic, so even if you can get then at boots it would be better. Let me know if you have any luck researching. On the US forums ladies seem to be able to order them, but they have a wider culture of looking for cheap prescriptions generally.

We can get the drugs from anywhere, but I have no idea how I actually do that. That's what I was hoping they'd tell me!

Fingers crossed T2D that you can get started as planned x.

T2D and TL - you can get the ivf drugs cheaper. The reason for this is that clinics agree the cost of the drugs with the provider they use but other providers can offer it cheaper. There are specialist companies that do it and I found a really lovely one who were friendly and a few hundred cheaper. You need to ask your clinic for the original prescription then you call the drug company read out all of your prescription and they give you a price over the phone and if you wsnt to go ahead you send your original prescription to them and make psyment and they then deliver the drugs. If you are interested I will dig out the name of the company I used?

Primmer that would be great. I think I'll have to start with the clinic, but would be good to get a few boxes of menopur as that climbs quickly when you are taking 300ui a day!

Thanks Primmer - see why couldn't the nurse have just said that. All she said to us was we can get the drugs from wherever we want... but gave us no idea how we go about that.

aw, sorry it didn't go well Tea. Horrible when you feel rushed, even more horrible when you are paying for the privilege! Hugs to not starting until January.

I've read on other forums that you can get the drugs from Asda and Tesco pharmacies, so literally anywhere. Like Primmer says, you just call with your prescription and get a quote.

Time passing is a horrible feeling. I remember thinking in Jan this year, 'oooohh 2013 will be our year, I'l definitely get pg this year'. What a fool. Can't even bring myself to hope that 2014 will be our year :(

Code - hope you are ok and coping with the turn in the weather. What is the waiting list like in your area?

AFM - working up the courage to call the NHS and find out if their waiting list has come down any. Currently its 23 months!

So, should I do it and risk depressing myself, or do it and possibly cheer myself up if by some miracle its come down?? Or do nothing?

    Thoughts please!
