    20 week scan tomorrow
  • Hope you're all having a good weekend ladies - sounds like many of you have got some good bargains!

I'm not too bothered if I get some things 2nd hand for baby but that might be because this is baby number 2 anyway, so most of the stuff we already have from DS so technically it's 2nd hand. I do need a new moses basket though, and I want a new carseat - the old one wasn't involved in a crash but I didn't realise the car was isofix at the time, and if I did I would have got an isofix seat, so that's what I intend to do this time. I also want a new expressing machine as I intend to breastfeed but like to express too so if family come over to looks after the little ones I can have several hours unbroken sleep. The bottle steriliser broke so we'll need a new one of those, other than that I don't think there's much to get. If this baby is a boy we won't really need many new clothes as DS barely wore most of his, if it's a girl we may have to buy some. Oh, I will buy a new mattress for the cot we already have.

We've decided not to have a holiday abroad this year as we can't really justify the expense plus the earliest date I can get enough time off is March when I'll be 5 and half months pregnant and I'll prbably be too big to get in a plane seat by then, and I wouldn't want to go abroad with a baby under one as I'm obsessive about sterlising everything! Usually we'll do at least one all-inclusive somewhere in Europe (last year we did 2) and a few weekend breaks in the UK. But as I'm the one who earns more our income is going to drop quite a lot when I go on maternity leave. Holidays are the one thing that I really look forward to throughout the year, so whilst all you ladies have been busy shopping for baby things I've been busy booking a couple of The Sun £9.50 holidays lol.
We usually go on one as a top-up to our main holidays, but this year it will be our main holiday! I'm feeling pretty chuffed as well as we got the park I wanted on the date I wanted and it was actually at the £9.50pp price for that date (free service charge and entertainment passes). And I've booked another one just down the road from where my Dad lives so we will get to see him a couple of times which will be nice, again it was at the £9.50pp price and a 5* rated park so I'm really happy with my bargains!
I've told OH to book some time off in October and we'll do another The Sun holiday then too with the new baby- probably around Cornwall way so we'll probably book Fri-Mon then another one Mon-Fri to get a full week.

Hello Wangdoodle, so nice to see you here :)

We've been starting to think about what baby stuff we need to get too. I looked at some second hand pushchairs online, but it's just not possible to tell how well used they've been from the pics. I think I'm set on getting that brand new as we are hoping to have a second child at some point. My sister has a cot bed for us, although not sure how we will get it here from Scotland! Otherwise I'll be looking for 'nearly new' bits.

It's important to get things you're happy with though, and if you love to go shopping for new bits that's all good. Both sets of parents have kindly given us a bit of money towards baby stuff so everything has to come out of that little fund. Apart from buggy and cot I don't know what I'll even need, eek! Am a little scared of weird equipment like breast pumps. Is it good to buy in advance or wait and see what you need at the time?

Well done for your holiday bargains Aqua :D

Good luck for tomorrow Chelseablue, hope it all goes swimmingly.

Thanks, I am stupidly excited, even though self-catering will actually mean self-catering and not going to a restaurant for meals this time as we'll be on a budget. I'm hoping my Dad invites us over for dinner a couple of times when we're staying near him as that will cut costs - I'm sure he will as he rarely gets to see us with living hundreds of miles away, we'll defnitely be meeting up, although he'll be at work during the day. It might just be me and DS though as OH has yet to book his time off work and he's forgotten to take in his holiday form. I've told him we're going on holiday with or without him but I'd prefer it if he could come as I need someone to carry the suitcases :rotfl:. Also, they have dodgem cars at the park that's not near my Dad's and DS loves them but is too small to go on by himself, and I doubt they'd let a pregnant lady on them so it will be better for DS if OH can come. It will be nice to have a couple of trips where DS is still the sole focus of attention too as he is getting jealous when we talk about the baby already. I'm sure OH will get his leave approved as March is hardly peak time, it doesn't matter if he can't come to the one near my Dad's, but the other one I was hoping would be our family holiday.
My sister laughs at me for booking the £9.50 holidays - although she did come with me when I booked a girly one once, but I'd rather go away on a budget than not at all, and it will be July 2015 before I consider going abroad again.
  • Thanks for making me feel welcome ladies :)

Good luck for your scans tomorrow chelseablue, mrshappy, and mysecretalias

Hi Aquamarinemonkey any news from your combined screening yet? I wouldn't worry, as others have said if there was a problem they'd let you know quickly. We're collecting The Sun holiday vouchers too, but we don't have enough to book yet. It will be more glam than our holiday last year: 3 wet September nights on a waterlogged campsite in the Lakes
