Was she older, T-M?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

She was 34 and overweight (but not as much as I am now, she's also a good few inches taller than me), but back then, anyone over 30 was automatically classed as high risk for everything in the States. I'm glad that advances have been made and things have changed!0 -
I don't know that your if your BMI is high that it automatically pushes you to high risk for downs.
Its a calculated risk depending on your blood the measurement of the fold and if you smoke, drink I think. At the end of the day I can totally see why people don't have it. If you were high risk you would worry the whole pregnancy and that could be for nothing almost ruining your pregnancy experience.
I swear I felt something on the outside this morning - if it wasn't baby I could not explain it - almost like a tap. I have my hands on my tummy and it happened. I was led down not sure if that makes it any different.
MIL is decorating the front room so I am upstairs studying today as its my day off.
Hope everyone is good xx3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

How exciting, hope you start to feel lots of movements soon! I'm dying to feel something properly. I keep feeling that popping feeling and little flutters but they happen so quickly that i begin to doubt that they are baby and pass them off as something else.0 -
Hi everyone,
Sorry been absent for a week or so. Had my best friends wedding at the weekend at which I was chief bridesmaid, so crazy busy and exhausting but had a fabulous time.
Had my 16 week appointment today and was disappointed as MW wouldn't try and listen to heartbeat. Apparently in my area they only do this at 25 weeks plus AND then only if you specifically ask for it. By then I'm hoping to feel movement so it's a bit redundant, so guess I'm waiting for the next scan to check the little one is still ok in there! Other than that, she took my blood pressure, a urine sample and gave me a talk about trying to avoid stress at work more (this last being prompted by my DH!). The one really good thing was that it was held in the children's sure start centre, not my usual surgery, and it was great to see what they offer - lots of free courses, activities and meeting options. I'd say it's definitely worth looking into for whilst off on mat leave. There was a newborn baby event going on when we were there (they were getting Xmas presents!) so got very broody watching!
Hope everyone is feeling well today.
Samtoby - very jealous you felt movement!!! I lie in bed at night concentrating, but nothing so far!.0 -
Oh becsxxx sorry they didn't listen in to the heartbeat. It is so strange how everything varies from place to place. As I said to one of the other ladies the angelsounds heart monitor is really good for £20 odd. It took me a while to pick it up though thats the only thing. As time gets on I am sure it gets easier.
The tap this morning was the first main feeling but I have had like bubbles popping in my tummy which are really funny - that could be wind.
I was expecting the 16 week check to be more involved it was quite quick and I do not get my next one until 24 weeks which seems like ages away. This is because its my 2nd child.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

It's my first child and I don't get another check until 25 weeks!!!! As I'm low risk for everything, there's apparently no need.
Will definitely look into the heart monitor though - it's just some piece of mind.
welcome fireyfirenze. I coloured my hair at home last week for the wedding and felt much better about myself x.0 -
