    Again, still reading through.... :)

sophiasmum - did you know there's a new test that's completely safe as an alternative to an amnio. It's called the Harmony test and it's basically a blood test that's shipped off to the USA for analysis. It's only available privately but thought I'd mention it should it be an option you wanted to explore.... :-)

Most of the lists vary but there are some things this time I will take that I didn't think to take last time. Like a pillow that is comfortable - the one I had in hospital was so uncomfortable it had one of those plastic covers which made a noise every time I took a breath and lip salve - my lips were so dry.

A pillow is 100% top of my list. What a god send last time after a section and being in hospital for a week. Great for adding to the armchair when sitting, great for sleeping comfortably and for resting baby on while BF'ing. The pillows are rubbish in hospital and in short supply. It sounds daft, but it was so useful!

    Welcome MrsTM and moonbabe

mysecretalias - my 16w midwife appointment was very boring, lol. Dipped stick in wee sample, checked blood pressure, asked if I had any concerns, problems etc and that was that. It the most boring one of them all. They don't listen to baby at 16w in my area.... I went on my own as didn't see the point of OH taking time out of work for such a trivial appointment :rotfl:

Wow I'm glad I don't have her dread to think what she'd say about me! 22.5 is totally normal?' My friend had one who was a bit like that, put her under consultant care and kept asking her husband if she ate food! In the end the consultant told her to stop coming to see him as it was wasting everyone's time. I think her bmi at the start was 17 and her baby was also around 7lb something.

My bmi was 17 something at my booking in, I was a bit less than usual then because of my sickness, normally it's around 18/18.5, and now I'm 25 weeks and it's now 19.8. I've put on a stone. I've got my 25 week appt today so wonder if they'll weigh me. I'm quite proud about how much I've put on as normally I really struggle!

Claire I'm the same, back and forth to the docs since I was 15 due to me being under weight - they used to ask me things like 'do you think you are fat'... 'do you make yourself sick after you have ate'.... really!!! I have a tiny build and i'm just naturally thin, it was like they were looking for a problem when there wasn't one - I used to get really upset about this! When I was TTC I booked a doctors appointment and asked if due to my weight would it be harder to conceive, my doctor told me it shouldn't be a problem - and luckily it wasn't but its always in the back of my mind :(
    I'm a size 8, could understand the concern if I was a size 6 or even a 4.
I think I have put a bit weight on too so i'm super chuffed :)

    Hi twigpig how are you?

I totally agree about the appointment being boring, it was this morning and it was rather uneventful. I even said to OH as soon as we booked it in that he didn't need to come, that I could just invite my brother instead. It's more OH who is upset because HE was the one who wanted to come to everything so as not to miss a thing. They did listen to baby's heartbeat this morning so I got to hear it but only for a minute because they were running late. I was also a little upset because had he just agreed not to come in the first place I could have taken my brother with me after all. He would have loved to hear the heartbeat.

Just at work on lunch at the moment. God I hate the people I work with - roll on May when I can have a year away from them!

16 weeks and 3 days today!

I was a size 4-6 up until last year when I had an operation and subsequent hormone treatment for my Endo when I finally started putting on a bit of weight. Since getting pregnant I've then put on another stone!! I think the weight will go on eventually, you just have to wait for baby to grow a bit more :)

I've never had any issues or drs appts because of it, me & my sister are just built like it too. Think we get it from my Dad. I'm a size 6 up top as I have no boobs lol but size 10 bum.

And I got periods at 13, so clearly there wasn't anything wrong there. I do have irregular periods but enough to ovulate around 10 times a year, my blood tests came back as normal.

So it's only ever other people who question it!

That's why I was so scared of ever needing fertility treatment as they want bmi of 19 and that would never happen for me.

Plus if your body was malnourished you wouldn't get periods and get pregnant would you. So I think by the time you see a midwife they should realise you're ok! Luckily the two I've seen just said it fine as I'm naturally like it.

It can go the other way too, my SIL is similar height to me, but weighs 5 stone more, so think she comes up as over weight or obese but she doesn't look it at all - yes she wants to loose some weight but there certainly doesn't look like there's 5 stone between us!

I am thin but not short so I think I look even thinner because of that. I am skin and bone always have been wear a size 6 sometimes 8 depending on the shop. I have always been thin - I have always had issues with people saying I am very thin, do I eat bla bla bla but hey that is just the way it is.

Well done on your weight gain - I am 17+3 and I am now lower than my weight before I got pregnant I did put on a bit but I have lost it - I have been so busy though and out with the dog a lot more as she needs walking earlier in these evenings with the light going so fast.

I am not worried at all and I think BMI is silly TBH but that is my opinion. I have friends that are over 30 BMI and do marathons. It is your body make up and your structures, you bones, muscle it all depends I think.

One of my sisters is like this - she's 5 ft 8, so not short, but narrow and very slim, she always has been.

A few years ago, she was generally unwell, lots of stomach problems, and lost weight which she couldn't really afford to do. She kept trying to get medical help to find out why she couldn't eat properly and was feeling so rubbish, and they all assumed she was anorexic or something, because she was just under 7 stone by then and very, very skinny Eventually my Dad lost his patience, and carted her off to a private doctor for a comprehensive check, and she was diagnosed as a Coeliac, and once on a gluten-free diet, felt better almost immediately and slowly gained enough weight to stop looking like a famine victim.

She got seriously fed up of people telling her she wasn't overweight, she needed to eat more - she was well aware of that, but also well aware than she was feeling rotten all the time and food made it worse!
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • Were your weights never questioned when you went for the contraception pill (if of course you ever used this method) for me it was every appointment, they would weigh me and i'd get 'hhhhhmmm your classed as under-weight.... this can just be as serious as being over weight you know'
At my booking-in appointment it wasn't even questioned, which was a relief - maybe she didn't dare go there as I was an emotional wreck after the talk of the down syndrome testing lol
