  • just had midwife on phone again....its regarding genetic testing. I agreed they could test my blood to see if Im a carrier for a disease my niece has and its turning into a saga. They now want me to have genetic councelling - I think my view is its too late for that. I have a 50:50 chance of being a carrier my DH far far less - and I have 2 healthy children already. Im thinking just stop the process now as what good is it going to do and nothing is going to change my mind? Ive already turned down the triple test (no nuchal fold test in Wales) - because its so vague and I came back high risk for DS last pregnancy and felt very pressured into having an amnio (I didn't) - ruined the pregnancy for me. Midwife completely behind me in turning down triple test this time esp as Im 38 - Ill prob be high risk again - but wants me to talk to the councillor :( Hm.....

Found cause of cramping, been to get checked and turns out I've a urine infection. So not great but better than anything serious and I'm relieved

Sophiasmum-I had an appointment with a genetic counseller before starting IVF as hubby is a CF carrier, and it wasn't a counselling appointment as such, she took lots of information about our families and any issues, she was very factual about explaining any risks etc and she took my blood to see if I was a CF carrier. I don't really know what I was expecting from the appointment, but I found it interesting and informative, but not at all "counselly" if that makes sense. I'm not sure if that is the same type of appointment as you are being offered though :)
  • Thanks mrshappy - I think my my main issue is I knew obv about my niece condition before I got pregnant and know it is 50:50 that I am a carrier. I deliberately didn't get tested prior to conceiving as the odds are really low that dh is a carrier too. I
M just not sure how worthwhile it is to me and my pregnancy now to investigate further - I shouldn't have let myself get talked into getting tested at my 12 week scan!! Im thinking I may just tell them to drop it....im not in denial just weighing cit all up in a informed way x the appt with genetic councillor would be over phone so may go that far.

Sophiasmum-I didn't really appreciate how many difficult decisions needed to be made during pregnancy-I'll blame the fact that I was young and naive the last time I did it. It was only when we started fertility investigations that we found out that hubby is a CF carrier-if I was also a carrier it would increase the risk hugely which is why I was tested. I have turned down all first trimester screening as I don't want to potentially spend my whole pregnancy anxious and worrying about iffy results. I'm sure you will the decision which is right for you x
  • Don't blame you mrshappy - I spent the whole of my last pregnancy worrying about a high risk result on downs syndrome testing. I had just had the test without thinking of the implications - v easy to do. In fact the more I think about it the more bsure I am tha I don't want any more tests. Thanks for listening! X

Just dropping in with a bargain I spotted on HUKD. Very tempted by this:

    Con are you feeling better?

Mysec I think you misunderstood a bit: I was contextualising what had happened with mil to make it get to the stage where I don't speak to her, I haven't spoken to her for months. Since being pregnant however she is trying to worm her way back in purely to see the baby, she did the same with bils partner when she was pregnant.

I understand what you mean re your upbringing and so his family are a bit full on for you, and if they are the type to be inviting themselves over or turning up unannounced you need to nip it in the bud before the baby comes otherwise they'll never leave you alone!

Crazy isn't it? Convinced my mum she'd like to buy me this for Christmas. Given we're in a 1 bed flat and I don't really want a Moses basket this seems perfect :)

23 weeks today. Enjoying some peace and quiet today after being out 3 nights in a row - I'm exhausted!
