  • That sounds like a lovely moment Neverdespairgirl and it's great that you shared that. Though I'm sure if you had chosen to have it be just you and OH she would have respected that and not held it against you? This I feel isn't the situation I'm in - in fact I'm dreading the fallout of my OH's conversation with his dad about this.

My mother is lovely, she never holds anything against anyone, she's just not like that. I was just putting the other side of it, that it was great (for me, and my family, in different circumstances) so I didn't see it as automatically rude. As it's now 8 years ago, I can't remember who raised the subject, anyway.

I totally see it's your decision, and completely up to you and your OH whether you want company or not. I just don't think it's necessarily rude to ask, that's all, if that makes sense.

I don't have a MIL, both she and FIL died when I was pregnant with Isaac, and fortunately my OH and my parents get on very well together.

  • In all my ranting becs I missed this, sorry. Wow that's blooming awesome :T - I am jealous I've entered loads of baby comps and not won any!! And yeah you can always sell it if you decide not to get it - also with most competitions don't they usually say 'or cash alternative' so maybe you could ask for cash equivalent instead?

when I read that, all I could think about was you winning an actual baby in a competition!

  • Sorry I need to rant somewhere; ordered a maternity dress from Asos, first time I've ever ordered from them but friends have had very good and fast service on their standard delivery. Ordered it on Monday, they took my money and sent confirmation and said latest delivery 9th Dec which was fine as my friends and I thought its only one dress so how long could it take to ship...5th day today and its still not been packed and shipped! I wanted it for the 9th so had hoped it would arrive tomorrow :'( I knew I should have paid for next day - flipping twits :'(

In less ranty news baby has not stopped wiggling for hours! All of last night right through to now - its like she knows I'm getting hacked off every so often and is giving me cuddles from inside! Hehe.
Bf got me Christmas cards from him and baby yesterday and they are so cute! They are sort of 3d effect ones with tatty teddy on.

I'm 24wks today! :'( sob. Think I might just hang around an extra week until I'm 25 haha then move on...don't want to leave this lovely thread though

Bit worried today although probably over nothing. Been up most of the night with cramp like pains...not so much period like but the type you get with an upset stomach. I'm hoping that's all it is but have to go up to hosp after 12 if they persist.

I've been really thirsty he last two days and as a result finished all the juice so last night late on I drank lots of milk... Milk can disagree with me at times so it's probably to blame. Called in a sick day at work but not sure til be classes as ' pregnancy related' if it is indeed an upset stomach....

Hope you're feeling better soon, put your feet up and relax.
Our digestive systems are much more sensitive and sluggish during pregnancy so it could very well be an upset stomach.

If you weren't pregnant your body probably would have recovered itself by now meaning you could go to work so i would class it as pregnancy related!

MSA: Just don't forget that this is YOUR baby. Your in-laws have had their children and it's now your turn, that doesn't give them any special rights to invite themselves to scans (which, as Claire says, is a serious medical appointment, not just a nice chance to look at the baby and see if it's a boy or a girl) or take the baby away once s/he is born! Being a grandparent is not a right, it's a privilege. My DH and I decided from the start that we wouldn't have parents along to scans or the birth as we're starting our own family together and what kind of message does it give out when we're 2 married adults still leaning on our parents when we're bringing a new life into our lives? We're pretty independent though, which is a good reflection of our parents that they raised us to be so. :)

I don't see how your MIL can be feeling left-out either since you're living with her, what more does she expect?! I get the feeling she's the type who just will never be happy! I made an effort with my MIL to send her pictures of the nursery as it was being done and took her shopping a couple of times for baby things but apart from that, there's not much you can do. You're the one with the baby inside you, there's only so much other people can do, even including your OH, to feel involved. :o

If they really want to see a scan, suggest that they pay for a private one at a later date, once you know the medical stuff is all OK. Perhaps having to actually fork out the money will make them decide that they can actually wait a few months to see the baby in person! :p
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

That's a great idea! Win win for you MSA too! :p

In our hospital only 2 can go into the scan room so grandparents etc wouldn't be allowed. Can't you just say your hospital has the same policy?

    Hi All

I've been lurking but not posting much - its mad busy at work.

mysecretalias - It's the same at my hospital, you're only allowed to take 1 in - that's a damn good excuse.

Speaking of scans.....mine is later today :j! I'm so excited to see bubba again, even more so because OH is coming to this one (he couldnt last time). Just hoping/praying everything is just as it should be. I'm staying team yellow but will update to say how it goes.
