Wow must be hard going :) - have you always done that area?

I started off doing a mixed crime (general crime) and immigration pupillage, then went to an almost entirely criminal law set, carried on doing a bit of immigration, and gradually dropped general crime altogether, although I still do some immigration-related crime. I did a 3 month trial at the start of this year at a Crown Court, for example, on an indictment alleging conspiracy to facilitate unlawful entry into the UK (a supposed dodgy college conspiring to issue dodgy visas to non-EU students).
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • All this talk of law makes me miss working where I used to :( I have an MSc in Forensic Psychology and as such are law barr association (or whatever the jargon is) is accredited and as such could go on to the barr (as my law tutor wanted me to) but haven't (obviously) :(

I do enjoy all that though and miss applying my skills so if any assistance is ever needed ... ;)

My knee is killing still - the bruise has gone down but it's very stiff and there is a definite lump...eek! Baby is comfy though and that's all that matters.
Today picked up though and at least I haven't been alone all day in the office :) and going to take myself off to watch the local Christmas lights get tuned on after work

What area of law, mary? I do immigration and immigration-related crime.

I practice family law, mainly care, a fair bit of private law and a smattering of divorce and domestic violence, the hearing yesterday was for forced marriage, I really enjoyed it :)

Immigration sounds interesting, you're in London aren't you? X
  • Slightly off topic but what are all you ladies getting for Christmas? I've had a few relatives asking me to what I want but I just don't know what to tell them! I really don't want a thing!!
Hubby and I are not going over the top this year as all our pennies are being saved up for the baby, but I know our family always like to get us things. I don't really want to ask for baby stuff at this stage us I know well get all that at the time but I'm seriously running out if ideas!!
Trying to think of some practical items, or maybe something impractical that we could have as a treat but I'm at a loss!!

    Any ideas? X

How about something baby-related but for you, like a baby sling?

  • When I was pregnant with Isaac, my sisters and brother gave me a joint present of a voucher for 2 pregnancy massages (for me, not the baby once born).

They were utter bliss, I entirely recommend them.

Yes, my Chambers are in the Gray's Inn area, and I'm a member of Middle Temple. OH is in Chambers in the Temple, but he does employment law, not the same area as me.

Because most barristers are in London, we tend to travel a bit - OH unusually had 4 days in Edinburgh this week, and he has a day in Leeds next. I'm in immigration tribunals in London on Monday and Tuesday next week, High Court on Thursday, and Newport on Friday.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Squ1rrel, I've asked for a hospital/overnight bag, Cussons mum to be toiletries (smell so nice!!), kindle voucher & a top length dressing gown type thing
First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/14 :D
  • I've asked for sewing gubbins (always been crafty but currently mastering my sewing machine!), cardigans (I don't do them up anyway so usual size/fit) and a nice fountain pen from my parents.

I think bf is getting me Champneys mum to be toiletries, a nice fluffy dressing gown and...erm I have no idea what else but he seems to know!

I'm getting bf a PS3 game he wants (limited collectors edition) and some clothes for when he goes away (long sleeve tops, underwear and socks...so practical) and I think I might try and find ideas for a 'new parent survival pack for him hehe

I'm expecting something sewing and/or baby related from bf's parents as its his mum that does the gifts and we go to sewing class together!

I hate asking for things so ultimately go for nice practical things! Ideally I would like people to maybe think about restaurant vouchers or something similar if they do a couples gift.

It's like at work, one of the girls from the other office asked if I knew what we might want for a mat leave gift (seriously wasn't expecting anything!) And I can't think of anything we will want/need...is it rude to ask for grocery vouchers to go towards supplies!?? Haha
