Neverdespairgirl that's weird what you said about the downs test - was yours a combined test with blood results as well? It's a standard around here (south London) that you have a combined blood + nunchal measurement screening and that you then have to wait a few days for a letter (or a phone call if it's bad news) for the downs results - they certainly never give them on the day at my hospital.
Mine was at UCH - central London. She took the blood test first, and it got taken off, and then she did the scan and all the measurements. Then OH and I were told to go and have a cup of tea, and when we came back, the results (combined scan and blood) were printed out and ready for us, and she explained them. They were for Down's, and 3 other genetic conditions that I can't remember the names of.
Hope the hip pain gets better by itself, doesn't sound much fun....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Didnt see any numbers on the letter? Unless I missed it
Chelseablue it Should say low and then in brackets it should say the numbers (i.e. Mine was 1 in 22,000)
You should also have got a slip of paper behind the letter with more details about what date and time they tested the blood, what your measurement was, etc.
Things just vary so much from hospital to hospital, is there a chance that at some hospitals they don't give you a number? Would seem odd as the standard booklet I got (which didn't seem specific to my nhs area) specifically states 'you will be told what risk level your baby is for downs in terms of 1 in.....' And then it gives an example of 1 in 1500.
Maybe you should phone your hospital and check to see if they can give you the exact figure - though the fact you've been told low means you've got nothing out worry about....so don't panic! Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

Gosh - that's efficient! Your hospital obviously is a lot more organised than mine in that case!! I wish we'd had this though - would have been a lot less nerve racking than having to wait for days afterwards for a letter and hoping your phone doesn't ring just in case it's bad news! Ours was only downs though - no other conditions. Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T

I opted out of downs test (its blood test only in Wales) as I came back high risk on last pregnancy and tbh it ruined the pregnancy. I hadn't thought the whole thing through!
One thing that happened to me at our scan this week was that because of a genetic condition in my family - I ended up having a blood test to be screened to see if I am a carrier. Doesn't make any difference to me - the mw seemed to be happier if I was screened and I didn't have strong feelings about it so I went with the flow. Does mean I have been referred to consultant though - I have 2 children who were both 6lb something at birth, she seemed to consider that low birth weight? I did point out that 50 years ago that was the norm and me & DH were both 6lbers born... Really hoping that the consultant will laugh me out of the room and I can still have baby in mw led birth centre. I did tell her it would prob be safer to let me come to bc as the hospital is a 30 min journey away and I wouldn't have made it last time! Nothing ever simple with me...0 -
Hi everyone,
I have had no proper internet for weeks so its been a case of on my lunch break or indeed on my phone!
I am bang on dates what I thought is what I mean. I am starting to worry about the size of my bump I am 15 weeks at the weekend and I have a bigger one than someone I know at 19 weeks! I am small and wonder if it just shows more or whether I am growing a big big baby! It is my 2nd but it is her 2nd too.
I am at Uni in my first year. My due date is just before the acedemic year ends so I will have to get stuff done early. When it restarts I will just see how I get on, I have some learning assistance as I am not the best at reading and writing.
I had my son at 19 and was always told I would never make anything of myself and had ruined my life. It really upset me but that made me more determined to prove it all wrong. When my DS was 6 months old I joined the Emergency Services and worked until I went into Housing (shift work was hard) 2 years ago. I am 28 now and I have no regrets. I have had a better career so far than some of my friends who did not have a child young. Rubbish when someone tells you anything negative about having a child and your career and when your pregnant I actaully think its quite a bully like tendancy by the person doing it.
Time seems to be going faster than the initial 12 weeks and now I have a heart monitor (the one that was mentioned on here a few pages back) I can listen in and hear movement. I just want to feel it now.
Hugs to all that need them - I am off to finish an essay.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

That reminds me of a tutor I had mary woo, she was such a harsh marker & for one piece of work she marked half & another tutor marked the other half of the class. Of course she marked mine and I lost some points for stuff that the other tutor didn't mark people down on it was totally unfair. Then I had another one who I really liked until she told me that my work I'd done was great, wasn't anything more I could add etc, then she gave me a 2:1 I was so annoyed! Luckily I just scraped a 1st for my degree but those type of things irk me too!
Don't worry about your career, you've got the rest of your life for that, I'm planning on a complete career change but not for a few years. I always think the last thing you'll think about on your death bed is what job you had, it will be all about family & memories x
Claire that sucks! So glad you got your first though! You must have been so pleased! I totally understand yoyr last paragraph, I know there's never a good time to have a baby, it just seems a bit down at the moment, I really do hope it passess.jen_1985_04 wrote: »Ooh Mary, it's so sad you feel that wayall these emotions are hard to deal with!
My only advise is to concentrate on yourself and your growing bump! Ignore what your husbands colleague said, granted she must be going through a hard time but she shouldn't have tried to make you feel guilty (that's if that was her intention - I do find it strange that she told you anyway).
As for your husband... well it must be a man thing as my OH is exactly the same - I have to ask him to tidy up and do housework, he would never think to do it on his own accord, and then I get wrong for nagging him - so I know how frustrating this can be
AFM My Oh has getting a new job which means he will be working away a lot, starts his training on Monday so hes away from Monday until Friday (whooo clean house for a whole week- But I will miss him)

Jen thank you I don't know why either, its just killed all the excitement I feel bad for her and it seems wrong to be happy about this baby when she's having such a horrible time. I wish she hadn't said anything to be honest, I dont think she meant any harm but Istill the damage is done now.
NDG - I meant I represented a client at a final hearing, it's the first time I've ever done a final hearing. First final hearing doesn't really make sense does it lol! Doh!0 -
What area of law, mary? I do immigration and immigration-related crime....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
