words are beginning to fail me, the only reason cancer and chemo came into the conversation was a previous post (about page 12) who made fun and lite of chemo, I spoke out in anger at that and the subject arose I have never made it known through any my posts what my health issue is, I do not need you to tell about benefits, I have not made out I am desperate for money, I am very aware of Macmillan I have personal friends who are nurses and very senior managers at that wonderful unit, I doubt they are aware one of their volunteers can be so insensitive posting on open forums such remarks, go back to read my first post that was more along lines of sorting out future not asking for sympathy, I would say you have a lot to learn in your training would suggest first subject should be tact and keeping of these sites if you cant control your thoughts and views

This says who can and who cannot control thoughts and views.

I cannot remember when there has been a more unpleasant poster who is so insensitive to other peoples' feelings.

So your friends in high places with Macmillan have not told you of your ENTITLEMENT to benefits? Not exactly supportive then, are they?

Absolute rubbish! I am done with you, with this thread - and I am reporting YOU to admin as I strongly suspect that you are a known troll.

    Here:-
fortunately my children live close enough to keep 'daily eye' if needed but I would never want them to feel they need to they are both in demanding careers with families, I had to look after my parents and hold down full time job its no joke, my sister and myself did it so they didnt need to go into care and be 'drain on the state' (as I have been accused of). Going into care sometimes is the only choice but I dont see why we should pay for a decent level of care, should be equal for all who want and paid for if you want the luxury end
we are coming down to thinking of raising funds through equity release, adapting the house and enjoying the fruits of our labor, between us my other half and myself have worked total 102 years paid tax and insurance all that time, yes on low pay, less than the minimum wage, never took anything, so the rudeness of a previous thread uncalled for

    And here:-
I worked in the NHS care assistant the wage was minimum but had to pay private pension had no choice did not qualify for state pension although since learned if I didnt have that private pension would have got pension credit which is not much less than my superan pension which isnt a lot because I didnt earn much, and it as done me out of any other benefits, so I could have saved all that I paid in and lived on benefits now, having a private pension does not mean you are rich in fact the opposite just means you cant get any state help, my monthly pension is less than someone on state pension

Just go away -and I'm saying this very politely ...PLEASE!

I repeat where do I say I am not getting benefits Im entitled to I miss out on many benefits because of my pension, thats how it goes

Can I say you and others need to step back, my original post was asking about care home charges, (irrespective of how that was interpreted), I challenge you to go back to page one, where in all this have I ever said I am not getting entitlements, when, until latest, did I say what my health issue is, read all the unfounded comments aimed at me, ask yourself have you and some others been civil, fair, just or plain good mannered.
Go back to the very beginning read all and tell me who are the nasty ones, all the private messages I have received are more than supportive and horrified at some comments I have received
If you want to be a support to cancer patients then you need to learn some humanity, doubt you are the right stuff for that role
  • I agree that the OP does not need to tell us her life story in the first post, but then she should not expect people to be sympathetic towards her having cancer, if they do not know she has cancer. They are not mind readers.

A very dear family friend has just died of a brain tumour, not yet 60, he wasn't able to have any chemo , even though he had cancer, it was too far advanced by the time it was diagnosed.

I actually think the person on this thread who has been most unpleasant is the OP. I'll be gracious and put this down to stress, but nevertheless they need to go back and look at their own posts. AND acknowledge the ones like my own, that have tried to help them.

Having said all that, I am amazed by anyone who worries about going into a care home. DH and I are of advanced age now, a couple of years off 80 when - we reckon - we'll be able to define ourselves as officially 'old'. And we haven't considered a care home yet!

I wouldn't say I worry about it margaretclare, not 50 till next year, but as Mr bugs has been in a care home since February, lovely combination of liver cancer and raging dementia, so in my case, I'm aware of it more than people who don't go regularly into them.

Circumstances are making me contemplate future care, admittedly in a fairly vague way, more than they used to at the moment.

Then you have good cause to contemplate the possibility/probability, and I am sorry. What I had in mind were the people who think of it in the abstract or from the opposite point of view i.e. 'how can we avoid paying care charges/protect our inheritance' and similar.

It is NOT true that benefits can't be paid along with pensions. DLA or AA are non-taxable and non-means-testable. Nothing at all to do with pensions earned from previous employment.
