Afternoon everyone!
Claiming yesterday and today as SFDs! I even cut my own hair (easy to do with clippers) to save myself a tenner, and had dinner made for me last night which was great!
Now up to SFD number 5!!!
I'm going to drag myself off to the gym shortly though I really don't want to go! I'm sat in on my day off all snuggled up in my dressing gown and I am just too comfy! Darn and double darn...
If I miss today - will it kill me - no. If I go today will I see immediate results - no. However - compound this over the next month... year... not going will certainly adversely affect my fitness and physique - and going will definitely yield results... That is the 'Slight Edge' at work. Doing the little things day in day out - because eventually they all add up.
If I save 50p today - will it make me rich? No. If I don't save it - will I go broke? No. Compound it over a year... £180... over 5 years... £945, over 20 years until I retire - over £4,000. Will I miss 50p a day? Probably not. Chuck it in an ISA and that amount will increase... Imagine if that 50p were a £1...

Spent about £20 on nice, healthy food which should last for a good while and then
spoilt it a bit by eating junk today and now have a horrible headache.
Why do we have it almost brainwashed into us from a young age that junk food is a treat, when really it just harms our body and on the whole makes us feel rubbish? Some treat!!!0 -

Hello there.
I'll start with the good-
SFDs- 6/20
Mondays visit to the dentist was a bit rubbish. I have good teeth, no fillings, no problems, just go for a scale and polish every 6months. Monday I waited 25mins after my appointment only for my bum to barely hit the dental chair for him to spend a minute fishing around in my mouth to tell me to come back as one of my teeth has a soft spot and needs a coating putting on it before it gets worse. That was it. I had booked for a scale & polish but apparently he'll do it next time so I instead had to pay £25 for my checkup and then have £75 to pay on my next visit. Not impressed. So that's £200 he'll have off us in the space of month (DH had a check up last month and has to go back for a filling re-doing). I didn't mind not having an NHS dentist as our visits we're infrequent and inexpensive-ish.
Yesterday I was in work and had applied for a promotion within my workplace to the band up from where I am now. Last month some of you may remember that I had an interview for a job 2 bands above where I am now and just lost out by a cats whisker. However, my bosses decided to not even short list me for this job. Go figure. Now I am very British in that I don't go around blowing my own trumpet, but I totally could do this new job where I work, so it was quite a kick in the teeth. So first thing my boss came in and said she wanted to speak to me about why I didn't make an interview, but she was off on a study day so it would be after she got back. I can't say I'm great with chats and feedback at the best of times, so being left then 7hours to stew on it wasn't best really!
Today though, today was meant to be a good day. Today I was travelling up to Glasgow for my volunteer interview (I'm like the interview queen!) for the Commonwealth Games. I'd booked my tickets. Packed my bag etc and was all sorted. However, I managed to miss my first train. Argh! I even saw it pull off as I ran for it. Que DH attempting to drive me to the next stop, but we wouldn't have made it so instead I decided to try and make it to the 4th stop- 1hr15min away. It would be close and I probably would have made it if a car hadn't have collided with a lorry on the motorway, causing a massive traffic jam. So that's £85.50 wasted. Non-refundable tickets and it's my own stupid fault for not leaving the house in enough time. It's kind of like looking for sympathy when you've a hangover I guess.
I'm just a little ray of sunshine! Today is a spend day after 3 SFDs on the trot, as I anticipated it being and had treated myself to JT's album for my train journey. Also needed milk, so been and bought that. I also wanted to get some dye to try and revive our bath towels. A trip to Wilkos later and it's nearly as cheap to buy new ones! No one seems to do a cheaper, own brand version- tried big T and Sainies too. Everywhere just has Dylon for £4.99. Any suggestions please, MSErs?
Budgets are very tight. Determined not to spend on CCs though. I have £50 in a savings account and £30 in an ISA (big saver me! :rotfl:) so I can easily move those across to cover planned food shop tomorrow. Hoping we can eek out the fuel we have, but my driving needlessly today will not have helped the cause.
In less miserable news I had booked my MOT & service (overdue by 6months!) for the end of this month yesterday and had a letter through from said garage offering me either an MOT for £29.95 or free MOT with any service. Winner! So I shall ring up and see if they're apply this to my current booking. If not cancel and rebook it over the phone.
Regards heating. Ours isn't on, but we have a weird system with a choice of how many heaters to have on. We run it with just one of the 3kW on. But it had been struggling with the drop it temp and after 3 days of cold showers I conceded and have put the 2nd 3kW heater on. Better than have the whole lot on though (it has x2 3kW & x2 6kW).
To the person (Lillian?) asking this and mentioning buying a tumble dyer, whilst it sounds like a little piece I heaven, would it be more cost effective to put the heating on rather than spend £175 plus then the leccy those things guzzle (so I hear, I've never owned one)?
Please forgive my misery post. Hopefully that's my 3 now and things may be a little kinder in the coming days...Debt at LBM June 2013- £31,300

Oh fuggy what a day you had!
Agree rather stick the heating on (winter soon anyway) than buy a tumble dryer
Re towels, if it's the softness then a wash with vinegar and baking soda apparently helps If the colourd faded then i dont know.
Just had a look through the MSE supermarket voucher and deal section. They are all for branded items though, buying them seems alian to me though. God knows what our grocery and HH bill would be like then.
Tonight was bangers and herby mash with onion gravy.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
Evening all,
Fyggy what a day! Poor you!
Checking in with a SFD, took lunch to work and didn't eat out
I don't know whether its the onset of autumn but I have been a complete misery guts this week. Work seems really stressful and there is a growing never ending list of things to do. I'm ready for the weekend and intend on staying in my PJs and avoiding the world
Early bed time for me I think.LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

Plus today was a SFD as i'm excluding debt repayment!
This challenge help keeps me on the straight and narrow, so much better and more confident with my finances!

Oh fyggy what a nightmare!
In from the gym & got caught up on this thread while eating HM pasta sauce with extra chilli flakes feel a bit of a cold coming on, but I won't give in easily. DH's made peanut butter & marathon muffins so bang goes all the sweating & grunting at the gym!
Spendy day as expected spent some of the toiletries budget but fairly wisely. Need hand cream for work last one's lasted nearly a year & moisturiser not up to this cold spell. Saw in the weekly email a few offers with mags, so got them. Can't remember the last time I bought magazines feels quite extravagant but I've got quite sensitive skin & didn't want to risk cheaper untried stuff. also being in earlier at work meant that train was a bit more expensive. Grrr. Did take lunch in which was lovely.
On the subject of heating it's been on the odd hour here & there it is cold up here! But I would normally have had it on so much earlier if I hadn't been thinking a bit more frugally.
Aiming for 2 SFDs in a row. I can do this. Off to make lunches for DS & me he's asked for home grown cress in his wrap he's never had it hope he likes it otherwise he'll be starving! DH & DD can fix their own he's off tomorrow.

Oh dear Fyggy what a traumatic day. Is there another day you can go for your interview instead?
Things continuing fine here so todays results are
SFDs: 5/20
Food budget: £23.58/£280
Donation: £0/£3
Planned outings: 0/1 Meal out for birthday with OH (paid on voucher already)
Takeaway £0/£20 - Chinese to celebrate birthday with children,
Take lunch to work: 7/20
Beauty spends £2.67/£10
Another SFD and both took lunches to work today, with both boys having pack ups too.
I have taken a shampoo (£1.67) and a new shower puff (£1) out of my stocks however I have decided to charge these to my beauty budget and then put that money into a pot for when I have finally used up all my stock so that I have funds to replenish my stocks with. I am not recording these as spends for the SFD as I am not buying them per se just a virtual pot til the end of the month when I will put the physical cash in the pot. Well it all makes sence to me anyway:p0 -
Evening all.
Today was going to be a spend day as I needed stuff for lunch boxes tomorrow.......or so I thought! Whilst eating tea tonight there was a heartbreaking story about people with mental health issues amongst the poor in AfricaThis put my life completely into perspective and I decided right there and then that I have more than enough in my life to get me by and this included the food already in my cupboards. Therefore I did not venture back out to the supermarket tonight and instead made tomorrow's lunches with what I already had and am now sat quietly, reading these threads and being grateful for what I have.
I hope you all have a wonderful evening.
