Staying in a hotel when visiting friends

Single man? 8 hours on a sofa? I think i'd be perplexed, but not put out. A woman, or a couple I could understand wanting more privacy I suppose.
I personally don't relish staying at other people's houses too often. Mainly because I never sleep well, so wake up at 6am or earlier. I then have to lie still for hours for fear of waking people, or mooch around for coffee feeling like a burglar.
Before now, I have stayed at a friend's house about 15 miles away. Woke in the morning, drove home, had a bath, went to the shop and drove back before they got up!"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." I thought the OP said his friend lives in a house share with quite a few others, and the only place he can sleep if he stays there is in bed with his friend?0 -
Surely it's a personal choice and yes an invite to stay is nice but why do people get offended if someone says no? It's their choice. Staying is not compulsory surely?! Weird world we live in.Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T0 -
I'm an utter cheapskate and would never book a hotel if a free alternative was offered (would buy wine or chocs to say thanks though).
Even when I go away I prefer to be in a backpackers hostel!

OP says floor or sofa bed...
Your friend is put out that you won't share his/her bed? Are you sure there is not an ulterior motive? *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." I would choose a hotel too, though I don't tend to stay when I go to London to see friends now. I get what you mean by you don't want to rely on someone else to go to bed before you can, and I feel like I can relax more in a hotel room and can be a bit messy if I want to be.0

To be frank, you can be pretty judgemental about other people's lifestyles on here....if you're like that IRL, that might have something to do with it."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. So it's judgemental to expect common courtesy from other people! All I needed was to be informed that they wouldn't be taking up my offer.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Unless you have a hang-up yourself about cleanliness, why would you think that?
There could be many reasons why someone would prefer to stay in a hotel - it could just be a case of liking their own space or it could be something very personal that they wouldn't want to disclose.
If you're good enough friends with someone that you'd invite them to stay at your house, why not just respect their choice if they prefer a hotel?
I have a realtive who lives around the corner, and won't use my toilet because ..... Well who knows why?0
