Really angry at myself - please help

  • Why on earth should I be grateful?! They could show me the CCTV - this is a small Lancashire town and we're all 2 degrees removed, in one way or another.

I want to a least have a chance at getting it back, or at least making someone sorry for taking it. Why should they just be allowed to get away with it, when there is a chance (however small) of it being returned.

I swear I will never enter another ASDA store again, theyre customer service has been dreadful.

I'm not blaming the supermarket for my mistake, but they are preventing it being rectified (however small a chance there maybe) and that's the problem.

Surely the police can ask that the CCTV can be checked.
  • It was your mistake that someone else snatched your money.

I hardly think it was OP's fault that someone behind her in the que decided to steal her money.

We all make mistakes but that isn't going to make the situation any easier.

((Hugs)) OP, I really hope you manage to get your money back although I suspect the chances are pretty slim I'm afraid.

I believe this is actually the reason they won't show you. The store can only show the police because they do not want you to take the law into your own hands and end up in much much more trouble.

You really will have something to be sorry about if you intimidate someone and end up in a cell.

This was your fault, it is natural to blame others but actually it's down to you and your carelessness.

I am sorry for you but you will just have to deal with it . Sorry!

The OP hasnt said at all that they plan to intimidate anyone.

Please, we can all disagree but theres no need to say stuff like that to someone who is already clearly upset.
  • Agree with ognum, there's no way they would show you it for the very reason that you might know the person. What would you do anyway if you did know them? It's nothing to do with 'customer service' either - it is not related to any product they have provided you with.

What a shame. I feel for you.

The guy in front of me at the atm at tesco did exactly the same. He was lucky it was me behind him as I chased after him with his money. The girl behind me said she'd just have kept it. I don't think she was joking.

I'd be annoyed with Asda too, not because I held them responsible but just because they aren't willing to do anything out of their way to help. It's not a difficult situation imo and i'm sure there would be a way round it but they have chosen to go down the 'bloke is off' route rather than seeing if there was a way to help in the meantime, especially since the Police were involved.

Nothing you can do now, you just need to rationalise and be practical.

I left £20 in an Asda self serve till 3 weeks ago. I realised as soon as i got home, went back to the store and an assistant had picked it up and handed it to the customer service desk, who then gave it me back once i showed them my receipt.

As another customer picked up the OP's cash, i'd say there's no chance of getting it back. What use will the CCTV be anyway ? How will you identify who it is ? The police may help once they look at it, but don't hold your breath expecting them to spring into action for you, it really was your fault.

Ive also done a lot of nice things for people lately, Ive found bus tickets, I phoned an ambulance when someone had a heart attack when driving, but the what goes around comes around universe stuff can be claptrap when you need it

Dont think like that, just be glad you are kind and youd always try and return something to its rightful owner.

Why should I be glad? I am skint, have nothing of any cost to my name and have still handed expensive items in to be claimed. I think I'm just stupid, frankly.

I've done and do numerous things for others, unasked and yet when I could do with someone to do the same for me no-one will. Even the day I fractured both my wrists the taxi driver was unwilling to get out of his cab and help me to open the door as I couldn't twist my wrist. My landlady was happy to accept rent despite me not being able to live there with two broken wrists, and when I did live there she made my life hell. My manager at work is happy to accept that the Acting team leader give out shifts to their friends first. Over bank hol, one staff member gave 5 shifts over three days to her niece while I got one shift (niece was already working).

I honestly don't think it does, anymore. I've had so much !!!!!! in my direction recently but I am really not an awful person - I work in a "caring" job, do "nice" stuff all the time, even on Monday I pointed out that I hadn't paid for a chocolate bar at the garage.

So far being fair, nice and honest has got me a big fat zero.

Listen, I know what its like to be a decent person and have crap times and I know other people who are the kindest and most decent people and who have gone through some terrible times and I mean terrible, potentially life changing for the worse times.

But you get through them. Would you rather be someone who takes other peoples money

I know what its like to be bullied at work. I left 5 jobs because of it, it made me ill to the point I changed career and yes you do go over things and think why me?

But it did happen to me. All I can do is deal with it and move on.
Ive also worked in jobs where Ive been denied overtime, the assistant manager chose to give it to his wife who was working there as a sessional worker.

But if this 20 quid at the moment feels like the straw that broke the camels back, then rather than dwelling on the crappy bits of your life, realise that for a lot of people life isnt roses either and that might not make you feel better, but at some point maybe, you'll get the courage up to start changing things, removing toxic people from your life and letting go

Again, would you rather be you, or would you rather be someone who takes peoples cash?

I cant change myself, Im not going to stop being nice just because some other people arent.
