For a start a bag for life doesn't mean it'll last forever, they replace it if it breaks. The op got that.
    Did they?

    The OP told us:

My point exactly! Why worry about petty details and bore myself stupid by reading every part of the thread & all links posted!

For a start a bag for life doesn't mean it'll last forever, they replace it if it breaks. The op got that. And that links say Terry Leahy is CEO, he hasn't been since March 2011!

    Azari, lighten up :)

Is it still advertised as a bag for life?

Fair enough, no reason to disbelieve you.

From my experience I have never seen it advertised as such and can find no current web pages saying it is.

It it was advertised as such in the OP store then she could have just walked the assistant to the stand where it said it to prove her point .

If you read your link, it seems not all 'Bags for Life' can be exchanged:
The new designer range of Tesco Bags
for Life, from 35p each, includes a natty
jute version. Don't forget shoppers earn
green Clubcard Points when they re-use
any shopping bag, including the regular
10p Bag for Life, which can be
exchanged or recycled into other plastic
products such as black bin liners
    . We're
on target to reduce carrier bags by 1
billion by May 2008 – and to help, you
can even choose a plastic bag-free
    home delivery at Tesco.com.

It reads to me that the 10p bag can be exchanged, not the jute bag. The name is misleading, but the information seems pretty clear.

I think these are set by HQ but at store level it comes down to area/store management if they implement in stores, just like some stores stock certain brands that others dont.

My definition of current and yours must differ. I don't count something from over 3 years ago as current.

It is even older than that - the article refers to being 'on target to reduce carrier bags by 1 million by May 2008', so we're looking at at least five years!
  • Here in Wales, we already pay 5p in every shop for plastic bags - Tesco do offer the 10p bags for life, and they are for life, even though the poorer quality ones are now 5p... You work out which is the better deal, yet I still see people struggling with 2 paper thin ones instead of 'forking out' for an expensive, strong, reusable 10p one :S

And when the charge comes into force in England, Tesco will also stop issuing green clubcard points for reusing plastic bags as they did in Wales.

Also do people realise that the charge applies to the bags got from the chippy as well?
    2014 Target;

    Overpayment to date : £310

They don't because it doesn't. It's just supermarkets and large stores.
