In our Tesco the only bag for life that they sell is the plastic 10p bag, the material ones and hessian bags are not marketed as bags for life.

Same in my local Tesco, and every Tesco I've been in.

I see the 'bags for life' as the 10p plastic ones and not the £1/2/3 ones.

However, that being said, I would expect the jute bags to last longer than the plastic ones so I guess it comes down to how long you've had the jute bag?!

If it's only lasted a couple of shops, I'd be pretty miffed too. If it's taken a fair few heavy loads over lots of shopping trips, I wouldn't expect anything from Tesco.

As some one else has said the jute bags are not bags for life, the person on the CS desk is obviously confused. The bags for life ,10p, are the plastic ones only.

I wonder if they will continue doing the free replacements when the 5p charge comes in?

Did you look at the link i gave. i will quote what it states

The new designer range of Tesco Bags
for Life, from 35p each, includes a natty
jute version. Don't forget shoppers earn
green Clubcard Points when they re-use
any shopping bag, including the regular
10p Bag for Life, which can be
exchanged or recycled into other plastic
products such as black bin liners. We're
on target to reduce carrier bags by 1
billion by May 2008 – and to help, you
can even choose a plastic bag-free
    home delivery at Tesco.com.

Sadly no laws preventing idiots from posting

It's in the link he has already posted.

    And it's absolutely current.

The 5p charge will be for the paper-thin bags that are currently free. I don't think they'll replace them as they are designed to degrade very quickly.

    Correct.

The 5p will not be for the 'bags for life'.

i provided the link in post 10 and yes these are still available in my local Tesco store
  • Here in Wales, we already pay 5p in every shop for plastic bags - Tesco do offer the 10p bags for life, and they are for life, even though the poorer quality ones are now 5p... You work out which is the better deal, yet I still see people struggling with 2 paper thin ones instead of 'forking out' for an expensive, strong, reusable 10p one :S

  • So basically the op is complaining about a bag for life that infact wasn't advertised as a bag for life after all!

My gran is 93, she puts this down to party leading a happy life and not getting wound up by petty things!
