I''ve been light headed all day. Apparently it's the extra oxygen getting to your brain.

Day 1 for me and it's been fine. 3 or 4 10-minute cravings which I've ignored. The worst thing has been smelling the pollution from traffic! I was going to put a patch on but found they'd expired 6 years ago so just went cold turkey instead. Day 2 is the danger time for me - I usually get complacent and trip up by 48 hours, so I shall be alert to it. I've got more riding on it this time - DH has smoked for 40 years and is having his Day 1 tomorrow on e-cigs, so I intend to stick to it myself and not make it harder for him. I did do the Pursing of the Lips when I got up at 5.30 this morning to find him smoking in here; I simply took his ashtray away and he got the message.

Well I guess that was better than just having a fag in each hand haha :D
I think Im just gonna try nothing at first and see how I go. I have quite strong willpower so I hopefully wont cave in.

I am doing cold turkey as well as I just want the nicotine out of my system. To be gone once and for all....

Having given up for fairly long periods many (many) times, I am quite 'expert' (;)) on nicotine withdrawal...(and on failing to quit for good).

Generally, 95% has left your bloodstream within 48 hours and by day 4 (approx. 100 hours-ish) it's all gone so from then on the cravings are all psychological / habit / association etc.

If you 'give in ' and have a sneaky smoke on day 5 or 6 you will find it doesn't give you the 'hit' + it just tastes pretty foul.

Within 10 minutes of you inhaling that sneaky one the nicotine leaves your body and then you will start an almighty crave.....and the 2nd one gives you The Hit that you were remembering from before....and then it's just a matter of time as the 2 per day creep up + up so you end up back on 20 a day after a few months.
Been there / done that many times :D

It's different with nicotine replacement as it stays in the body for as long as you use it then you go through the 4 days nicotine withdrawal once you stop using the NRT.

The idea is the habits/associations will have gone by that point.

    It's 30 days to change a habit.

"After 8 hours nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in blood reduce by half an oxygen levels return to normal."

"After 24 hours carbon monoxide eliminated from the body. Lungs start to clear out mucus and other smoking debris."

One packet of fags not bought is around £8. A small pouch of baccy £4, plus filters 90p and papers 35p.

Keep with it :) it is worth the hassle x
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

Saved £9.22, 28 fags and 2 hours 20 minutes of life, apparently. That's nearly 10% of a day saved.

I feel better now, had a hard time around tea time - so used to the feeling of coming in from work and going out to the garden to light up.

Not any more. No more standing like a plank out in the rain, freezing and stinking and wheezing.

(Took a bag of crisps though to compensate - might have to increase the walking soon to make up for the junk).

Start again tomorrow morning, and see how you get on.

This will be hit and miss for many, I think!

Day 1 and getting through until 7pm is definitely not a fail. Put the fags away now, clean your teeth and look forward to having another go tomorrow.

    Keep going Angelicious :)

  • Been smokiing myself silly for the past 5 years, since my divorce & been feeling increasingly unwell lately,i know it's down to the fags, i want to stop at midnight tonight but i'm just so scared of going through the whole withdrawal/association thing , stopped for 9 wks once with high dose patches & inhalator but the whole time i was pulling my hair out & fags on my mind the whole time that finally found i gave in to the flaming hold it has on me. When does it ever end?
