I had to swap tea for coffee (and I hate coffee). What do you normally drink - then think the complete opposite. Make breakfast a completely different challenge and turn the attention away from the fags to the nice food, looking after yourself type feeling.
Pineapple and strawberries are nice, a few a of the supermarkets do a (horribly expensive) ready to go pack if you are near in the morning xThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
I haven't read the whole thread (sorry), but thought this NHS tool might help those doing Stoptober as it has the MSE logic behind it!
Calculate how much you will save by stopping!
HTH and Good luck everyone,

Thanks Penelopedee, the nice healthy breakfast is a really good idea as i normally go without before setting off for work , may have to give a cup of hot choc a go stead of tea,or herbal tea which i'm not keen on but least will be different.0

The way I get through it is to find cheap and different ways to get through each part of the day that you would normally take for granted and therefore end up needing to partake in some nicotine.
So to completely fuzz out the smelly fag brain, think stupid but lush mixes to make up the normal sort of calories that you would normally have for the meal. But try and make it fancy if you can. Your taste buds will start to improve so fruit and veg start to get normal.
Strawberries, choccie or radish and dutch cheese or salmon and cream cheese. Stoptober means our smell and sense improve xThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Well gone the whole day.... I think I will defo be putting on weight during this whole process. I have eaten so much tonight just to give myself something to do with all this what I feel spare time I have now. My dilemma, I normally go to pub Tuesday evening, should I stay or should I go?
Maybe I should go and drink coke all night??
Maybe i should go and prove to myself I can do it??
Well i went to the pub, drunk slowly(well normal for other people), and survived the night without giving in to the evil fags.
So I am proud of myself at least.
Day 2 over and done with.............. Lets see what tomorrow brings.
Hope everyone is well xlbm 11/06/12 dept total 11499.470 -

Another cheerleader here wishing you all the best on your smokefree journies. :j
I gave up 2 and a half years ago and couldn't have done it without the help and support from people on MSE. I was a smoker for 30 plus years and have never looked back, it's the best thing I ever did.
The first few days are the worst, but it really does get better and the gaps between thinking about ciggies and smoking will gradually get longer and longer.
When the cravings hit, a good distraction is to eat some fruit like an orange or mandarins that will take some time to go through the motions of peeling and eating the segments one by one. By the time you've eaten the fruit the craving should have passed.
Lots of people find cold and fruity things are the most helpful at curbing cravings, ice lollies, ice-poles or sips of cold juice or water. Alcohol, plus cups of tea and coffee are usually strongly associated and connected with our smoking habits, so its a really good idea to try and knock them on the head in the early days.
You have to treat yourself well during this time and nurse yourself over the worst of it - get some nicer healthier and perhaps more decadent things as a reward for your efforts and use some of the money saved on smokes to ease your way through it.
