Housing Associations helping with moving costs?
Comments

Many people, young and old, have to move regularly due to rent increases. The house next door to me has had 18 different tenants in the past 10 years! Most see renting as a short term thing - 6 months. You seem to think that the country owes you something.
Many save for the deposit and month up front and do without everything for a few months except food just to pull the money together.
We do without everything but food and essentials for our son anyway, hence the lack of money and no way of actually saving money for the rent etc.
I dont expect anything from anyone, all i asked for was advice on how we cope with 2 rents at the same time and everyone jumps on me thinking im a no good !!!!!!!!!! who wants money for nothing!
Like others ive worked since i was 16 with no breaks in employment, only ever claimed a small amount in HB since our son was born and have the occasional struggle with money. What is the problem with me wanting to know if i can have help for a 4 week period whilst we sort ourselves out in our new house???? Im totally baffled.0 -
Perhaps the reality is that you simply cannot afford to move at the moment?0

We would never move In that case because we havent got enough spare money to save. Just gonna get on with it and see what we can do.0 -

We have accepted because despite the mess left inside it is perfect for us and we need good neighbours and the drop of £200 in rent that it provides. Also the security of social housing which you do not get in private rentals, we have had to move 6 times in the past 3 years for various reasons beyond our control and it isnt fun.
Just wondering have your housing association introduced the fixed period for new H/A tenancies (not exchanges) like one in our area has. They have a limit of 5 years now and they no longer provide new lifetime tenancies?0 -

You will get the deposit back from the private rental, this will pay a bit I would have thought.0 -

Of course you have spare money to save towards the inevitable costs of moving. You have that money you saved by not taking out the Sky subscription. You cancelled that not because you couldn't afford it, but because your landlord wouldn't allow the dish. Just put the money you would have spent on Sky into a savings account and, bingo, problem solved.0 -

I would suggest that hubby mans up and gets himself some sort of job (night work etc) or things are never going to get better.0 -
Just to add to the op, I was placed in a 4 bed house and have an entitlement of 2 bedrooms?!?! On the plus side it put me high on the list for downsizing later on which I did. But it seemed ridiculous at the time. The people in it before me had 9 children!
The HA won't let a tenant move in whilst repairs are being done no matter how trivial. If they are telling you 3 weeks it will (I'm my experience) be double that by the time they've faffed about.
Op all I would do is hand your notice in at the end of September and start scrapping as much cash together as you can. You can get a credit union loan really quickly (within a week) at my credit union without putting any money into it it was a max of £200. So go and speak to yours.0 -

Mans up? Get real!
He would love to go back to work but finding something around my hours is hard and it makes no financial sense for him to work when I do as his wage would be non existant when used to pay for childcare, so we wouldnt be any better off. Its just pointless at the minute.
He has applied for so many jobs that have been suitable but never got a reply never mind an interview so that doesnt help much.
Women stay at home to care for the children so why shouldnt my husband? Its not like its forever.0 -
Not meaning to be rude, but you have a lot of disposable income, when you count your wages, child related benefits, and housing benefits you have over. £1100 per month for living costs.
A couple on JSA have under £500.
I cannot see why you repeatedly don't have money for anything. When my husband was made redundant we survived on far less as had no choice. You make a lot of excuses and have been wanting a council house for a long time, yet didn't think to put £2 per week away (less than £10 pm).
I understand people have unexpected bills and live day to day, but you knew this day would come (or hoped), you have a larger income than most and now are suddenly wanting to know how to manage finances.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0
