I have foud a very good offer to call abroad. you can use your incl min. It is call cheersdirect. By using 02087752010 you can call for free to some of the destinations. This is a great promotion!:rotfl:
    Really? :rotfl:
    cheersdirect 23p
Why pay 23p if you can pay 15ish?

    Do I detect a fellow sceptic? :D

The 'free' calls are part of a limited promotion according to the Cheers Direct website.

Oh, yes. The 'free' calls cost at least the £5 top up that's required to activate the service. Having said that, some of the rates appear attractive.

The T+Cs are very long. I'd suggest a serious read before signing up.

voipcheap. anyone got anu callback services to recommend? skype of course. local french sim.
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

If you or he have a smartphone, use an app like Vonage.

I don't want him to have a big bill either, so was ideally looking for something free or very cheap on both sides :-)

Have only just found this thread, I don't need to call abroad but as I'm going on holiday soon I wanted to check my options for calling/texting home. Vodaphone, who I'm with, off an extra for £3 per day to use my free minutes and texts and data, however, this cost is even if I only make one short call or text so I decided against that as I know I will only have to make a max of 4 short calls to mobiles in Spain and will use whatsapp to text while I'm away.

Looking at the Vodaphone website I was surprised to see that it costs £1 a minute to call Spain and I really don't understand how it can be so expensive when the EU says that if people call home from another EU country that our calls are capped at around 30p a minute. Doesn't seem right somehow.

While in Spain look out for small coffee shops and bars that offer free WiFi, which is often a lot less hassle than the larger shopping complexes that need you to register, etc. Use their free WiFi connection to call home via Skype or similar. Typically 1.6p per minute (inc vat) to call UK land lines on Skype. You can also use old fashioned e-mail via a smart phone, just ask your contacts to check theirs regularly...

If you can arrange for your friends/relatives to use Skype and to be available at a pre-arranged time that is mutually convienent (yes I know it's a pain to do that) you can talk to each other for free, including video calling.

We use the WiFi at Chicken Shack, or the coffee shop next door, in Torrevieja.
