Can anyone help - PLEASE?
My daughter is just about to go to uni in the USA for 5 months.
Should she get some sort of phone card/contract when she gets to Arizona which she can use to text/phone new American friends?
What is the cheapest option for her to receive texts and calls from UK?
What is the cheapest way for us to phone/text her?
Am a bit lost about what to do - thank you0 -
Does anyone have any experience of icallabroad.com? Is this an option for calls to and from the US on UK mobiles or UK landline?
Thank you0 -

As far as calling her new american friends are concerned, she should get a phone over there. i am sure the students/tutors will know what phone deal is best to use in the usa.
as for you calling her, use this link (below) to call a 'pre' number before her number. (some of these numbers might be an answering machine saying "unfortunately due to capacity problems we are not able to connect your call.", but most will tell you that the call will be charged at 1p a minute ( i use ratebuster, almost always works for me

as i said, its good value and it only costs you 1p a minute to call her mobile from your landline (at least it is with BT, check your provider) texting her american phone will cost you 13p a text (well thats what o2 charge me) and her nothing to receive.
thats all i know. Hope this helps.0 -
I came across localphone.com
Works about the same way as Rebtel but quite a bit cheaper for some countries. Not free but very cheap.0 -
Hello
I came across this thread from the main link on the website. My friend phones her family a lot in pakistan and she currently gets 200 mins to call pakistanif she tops her phone by £30 per month. I Am looking for a way for her to try and get more for her money as she is hopeless with things like that.
I have been reading a we bit about this rebtel. I was hoping maybe someone could give me more advice or tips please0 -
Hey there,
I've been using Telediscount TopUp for over 2 years now, but in the last few weeks the call quality has made the service unusable. This is to several numbers in Germany. I also get the problem where the phone rings my end, but not theirs, but a 'straight call' a minute later connects.
So I ditched Telediscount and signed up to 1899.com - to get the same voice prompts and the same call quality problems. Evidently they are the same company, although Telediscount charge even if the call is not answered.
I am tempted to try RebTel, but that would entail explaining the system to everyone I call.
Any other suggestions along the lines of telediscount/1899.com? Basically a service where I can use my free minutes, I don't mind paying 1p/min for the call.
Cheers

You can call Germany from just 1p with Localphone using a geographical access number —no contracts or monthly fees, and no connection or service charges.

For ease of use I have been using 1899 for a few years now. I like the way I can add and remove the telephone numbers that I use the access the service. Call quality has always been good.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -
Hi Guys... the rebel free calls works as follows... you go online and register your sim number (preferably a sim local to where you are - so if you go to the US get a cheap US sim). Then log into your account online and register a number you want to call (a UK number for example). You will then see a local number displayed. If you dial that local number now from your local sim loaded phone you will be connected to the UK number you designated for only the cost of the local call on your local sim... that depends on what deal you got with your local sim... but your international call part is free. You don't ever need to get the other person to call you back - FACT (if all you want to do is call them). However, if you want the person to call you back then you have to follow the instructions... dial the local number, let the person answer and then tell them to make a note of the call number they have just received the call from (you're allocated a local number when you dial a UK number), they hang up whilst you stay on the line, they then call the number and are connected to you... hey presto... they have local number to dial you. Of course they will pay a local connection charge (free if in inclusive minutes) and you will in most countries have to pay a charge to receive (but then only a local charge).... so if you both have inclusive minutes it's free as they tell you. Again you only have to do the stay online whilst they call you back thingie when you want to get a local number to call you. Also the person you are calling doesn't have caller id - they will have to dial 1471 to get the number you were allocated when you called them.... as the great one says..."Simples"0

Well what i hate about it, you have to dial access number. Is there any chance to call directly from phone?0
