Vodafone Passport might be more suitable for you if you're going Turkey before the end of August, that's if you're calling the UK from Turkey anyway.

Vodaphone passport doesn't cover Turkey, sadly.

    Hi Kiwigirl,
I plan to buy one of those MVNO sims and I have an old unlocked mobile. Do you know how reliable they are?

Sorry, I'm very late in replying but perhaps this might help someone else; the connections themselves are fine - the MVNOs haven't set up their own mobile network, they're simply piggybacking on a mainstream network. I believe Lyca is on Orange.

What you do need to do is calculate where your calls are being made. If you're making a lot of calls mainly internationally, then an MVNO sim is likely to be good value. If you make both UK and international calls from your mobile, then you are likely to be better buying a phonecard, and programming your mobile with the pin. The reason is that often the MVNO sims don't offer good rates for UK calls, cancelling out any value in the international calls. In short, think over the calls you've made in the past week and calculate how many minutes you spoke for in the UK and abroad.

    If you've not programmed your mobile before, its easy enough;
    Physical Phonecard
    1. dial the access number, but don't hit send - instead press the # down until the letter P appears
    2. now enter your pin number.
        1. If you make calls to lots of different international numbers, now hit save - from now on, you'll just need to enter their telephone number.
        2. If you call the same number repeatedly, now press the # key again, so the letter P reappears. Now enter your destination number, and hit save.
    Virtual Phonecard
    1. dial the access number, but don't hit send
      1. If you make calls to lots of different international numbers, now hit save - from now on, you'll just need to enter their telephone number.
      2. If you call the same number repeatedly, now press the # key again, so the letter P reappears. Now enter your destination number, and hit save.
(basically for a virtual phone card, their system will automatically recognises your mobile number, and so, automatically inserts your pin for you)
The Rebtel product relies on two people calling the switch (where the call is carried). Your phone company pays a termination fee to Rebtel, as does the other party wherever they are - the call is carried over the internet, so this is how Rebtel make their money.

Has anyone used Rebtel on Orange phone? I want to get a Racoon tariff on Orange and it includes unlimited anytime calls. I want to know if I can use Rebtel with these minutes.

    Has anyone tried this?
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

I realise this is months late but may help someone. I've successfully used Rebtel with an Orange mobile as part of my inclusive minutes.

seems to be half decent rates, especially if using a PAYG mobile. Not tried it myself yet and wondering if anyone had any experience?

    1) buy local simcard (most of the suggestions here only really worthwhile for europe)

    2) voipcheap.co.uk, initiate a call phone to phone

+you can also use the fishtext app to txt the person, let them know you are calling.

    probably ~<20p/min global.

    Hope this helps.

    Have fun.
(other idea would be fring +voip with wifi or 3g)
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

    Hi

We're going to Italy on holiday in a couple of weeks. There will be 4 adults going. Is Rebtel an option for phoning each other within Italy on our mobiles?

I'm still not fully clear on how much it will cost. If I'm abroad and call the local Rebtel number, how much will it cost me? Does it depend on my contract here? I'm with O2 (work phone), and my wife is with Vodafone.

    Thanks,
    Calum

    Hi all,

i was wondering if anyone could help with the confusing situation of calling and receiving calls from the USA.
My girlfriend is in the USA for a few months. She has her UK mobile with her but i am going to get her a T-Mobile US sim to cut down costs.
I am going to get it from this site - icallabroad.com

unless anyone has any better alternatives??

Now i will be calling and receiving calls to and from her using this sim to my vodafone mobile so no landline calls will be made, just mobiles only. I don't have regular internet access so Skype isn't an option.
    Now my questions are:
    1. If she calls me from her US T-mobile using an international calling card will i be charging for reciving this call on my vodafone mobile?
    2. If i call her from my mobile using an international calling card will she be charged for receiving the call. If so does anyone have any idea how much?
    3. If shes call me from a landline in the US using a international calling card to my uk mobile do i incur any costs for receiving the call?
    4. Is there any other costs that i should take into account

Many thanks in advance for any replies

You will both pay for calling Rebtel, so you need to check what costs you will incur for calling a UK no. when overseas (Rebtel gives you a UK telno to call).
