Have read this post and just wanted to add - has OP approached local authority about Housing bens and council tax support? These benefits are changing rapidly but there may be a possibility that they qualify. Your local authority may have a website with an online calculator that you could use or give them a call/visit to see. I know in the past that trainee nurses have had greatly reduced or full exemption from council tax. But I'm not sure is that is still the case due to the recent legislation changes. Would be worth looking into though!

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

And if you would like the real definition of abandonment then please just look at my own father......walked out on my mother when I was 4 weeks old and I have met him only once when I was 27 years old, never to be seen again. That is a father abandoning his child, not my partner who speaks to his daughter twice a week and sees her as often as school holidays allow (was every weekend through a court order until she moved)

I see my daughter through a court order... I travel 500 miles each way as I no longer live where I did....by train....every fortnight.... For 8!hours..

slowcoach I will be doing a foundation degree to become an assistant practitioner, this is on the cusp of being fully trained. Unfortunately our trust removed any kind of hope for me to become fully trained AT PRESENT as they have removed the option of secondment and no longer fund training through the OU. Both of these options would have allowed me to do the full training course whilst earning me full time wage as I would still 'belong' to the department. This really is a long winded way of doing things but by the time I have completed the foundation degree my lo will be attending school so I can then afford to 'top it up' with another 18 months to become fully trained as I won't have nearly £700pm in nursery fees to pay. This is why my course is only 2 years and I see no other way of being able to live my dream. Needs must :)

Are you absolutely sure this is possible? Will it still be possible in a few years?
