Got mine from ebay, took just over a week - no probs with customs, in fact never had a problem with being charged for Chinese stuff.
  • Can anybody suggest a good camera (cheaper camera if possible, dont realy have hundreds to spend) that records when you start the engine (when the camera has power) and will stop recording when you turn off the engine, maybe they all do this, I have no idea. Just looking at maybe a camera I have to do nothign with and will just work.

    Thanks.

    Get a double lighter socket.

Wire it to an unused slot in the fuse box. And earth the other wire.

Add a 2 way piggy back plug onto any ignition live circuit.

    And probably several other options.

Many thanks, but that would be beyond me and the car that we presently have!

    pretty much this!

    i took one of these
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-Add-a-Circuit-Fuse-Tap-Piggy-Back-Standard-Blade-Fuse-Holder-12-24-Volt-/190904134717?

cut the plug off one of these and joined the wire up the the above
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xcar+usb+splitter&_nkw=car+usb+splitter&_sacat=0&_from=R40 (get one with the usb ports already built in)

tucked that up somewhere out of sight using zip ties

then got a nice long cable to route it round the screen out of view
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-Lead-A-Plug-To-Mini-B-5-pin-Data-Cable-Lead-5m-1m-1-8m-2m-3m-5m-Sat-Nav-/110913416167?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item19d2f46be7

i went down the splitter route as i have a few other accessories that i power in the car, plus it was a bit more flexible for future applications

as an alternative you can use one of these combined with the piggy back fuse

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.X12v+5+v+usb&_nkw=12v+5+v+usb&_sacat=0&_from=R40
and then just extend it with usb cables

    all straight forward stuff

i think the key is to not cut any wires and to have it all installed out of site so it can rattle around and put stress on the connectors etc

also its nice to have the standard fag lighter free for passengers etc

Many thanks, never seen a circuit fuse tap.
But, with the latest Canbus business, will it not interfere with voltages etc. and send out 'false' signals.

not sure, ive got this on three cars
2009 with canbus - on heated seat circuit
2004 without canbus - on heated screen circuit
2000 without canbus - on wiper circuit

I put it on big dirty circuits above as i figured it could cope, and the noise produced wouldnt bother anything

I'd never seen the tap circuit things before, but it much better than splicing / chopping
