Hello Diary and everyone else!!
Time to update on last week's progress and in fact the whole of last month.
September has been my first full month of proper debt busting. At times it's been exciting at others mind numbingly boring. But the good news is I am significantly in less debt than I was at the beginning of the month.
Things I have learnt this month:
*Surveys do pay BUT you have to put in the effort and devote a fair amount of time to it and you have to be patient to get your monies.
*Every little DOES help. I've made payments as small as £2 to my CC this month but when added up over the month this has come to a much larger amount.
*I don't need to spend money, I don't need to have my wallet on me at all times.
*I am easily lured off the wagon by the temptation of Greggs!!
*Music is such a satisfying mood lifter and hobby. There is never an excuse for your instrument to sit lonely in the corner gathering dust.
*I can make butter out of cream that's about to go off!
*I can come up with recipes to use up stuff in the cupboards rather than buying new stuff.
I've probably learnt loads more than this as well, particularly I've learnt how much support and friendliness is available on this site. This would definitely be a lonely journey without you guys along to help out and keep me smiling!!
September Challenge Round Up
*NSD Challenge*
By far my most successful challenge. I originally aimed for 10 NSDs. When I hit this I upped it to 15. When I hit this I upped it to 18. And on today, the last day of the month I am at 18 and have no plans to spend anything today (even though it is payday!!) so I'm 100% confident I will finish September on 19 NSDs out of a possible 30. :j
*100% Challenge*
This is still my favourite. I love crossing off the boxes and it's great to watch a number that rises rather than one that reduces! I started September at 2.16% paid and have finished it today on exactly 13%. I'd aimed to be at 10% by the end of November and have smashed this! My next target was 20% by the end of December but I'm gonna shoot for the stars and aim to hit this by the end of October! There's nothing stopping me, I can do this! :T
*Sealed Pot Challenge*
I have no idea how much in total is in my sealed pot, and I'm not going to be opening it anytime soon, but I have been really diligent in always putting my spare change in it and any roadkill I find. I've even got the hubby throwing in a few pence here and there!!:)
*Make £10 a Day Challenge*
I love this challenge in principle, but in reality it was hard for me and even though I only aimed for £5 a day I still found it very hard. I've finished the month on £96.27 made out of my £150 target. I'm not sure I'll participate in this one again but may do my own version which will just be to make an extra £100 each month. I just don't have the time to really devote to the £10 a day and feel £100 a month will be much more realistic for me.
So on to totals paid this month
*Credit Card*
Paid in August: £53.62
Paid in September: £433.70
Total Paid: £487.32
*Loan*
Paid in August: £44.63
Paid in September:£44.63
Total Paid: £89.26
*Overdraft*
Paid in August: £0
Paid in September: £27.88
Total Paid: £27.88
*Total Debt Payments*
Paid in August: £101.01
Paid in September: £506.21
Total Paid: £607.22
Comparing between August and September is a brilliant example of what can be done when you decide to commit to something. I paid off 5 times more in September than I did in August.
October has started well too. I know it's not properly October until tomorrow but as I got paid today, I'm pretending today is tomorrow for one thing. I got paid and my salary was £35.12 more than my SOA is based on so I have paid this directly to my CC. I'm counting it as an October payment though as it has come from my October salary. I was also able to take my ebay money out of paypal today and as I'd already made and 'October' CC payment I decided that this should be counted in October too, so that was another £21.04. So already for October I'm at £56.16 paid towards the CC!! :j
Last month I moved my debt repayment money to another account to hide it from myself. However this month I'm going to try leaving it where it is. I already know what my monthly budget is, so looking at the available balance doesn't really mean anything. The reason I'm doing this is to try and cut down on the amount of interest that I will get charged on for my overdraft. Fingers crossed it works out ok!!
Right I'm off to update my signature!! :j:j:j0 -
LOVE your round-ups!! Sitting here smiling at your energy, outlook and results! 13%!!!! I bet you didn't dare to dream you could come so far in such a short time - that is amazing news! And going for 20% in October has to be possible. Just keep hanging in there tight. You already have a jump start on the month so I think you'll be reporting that 20% has been smashed by the 20th. Lots of love and luck to you......and just stay away from Gregg's!!
You probably make better pasties anyway......

Awww thanks Hun! I like doing the round ups as its good to compare one week to the next. I'm pretty confident about the 20% the payments I've made today have put me at 14% so only another 6% to go!
Definitely get your chart done. I love colouring in the boxes and it's so motivational when you see how far it is until the next line is completely coloured in.
Well I'll definitely get my NSD today as I'm in my jammies already again!! :rotfl: Hubby calls it lounge wear! Plan for college tomorrow is £5 allocated for coffee and taking one of my homemade pasties and a bag of crisps so no Greggs (apart from coffee). I'm just sat here now making sure I've done all my homework and I'm all up to date. I'm determined not to leave everything to the last minute like I did last year! That was toooooooooo much stress!
Plan for the evening is chill out with hubby watching Firefly. That is if he's not out visiting his friend. He normally goes round there Monday evenings but as it was his first day back on days he might be too tired to, which means he can stay home with me! Yay!
We're picking up our new car on Saturday and I sorted out the insurance today. Good news is our premium has gone down, only by £4 admittedly but still down, so instead of the £30 admin fee I thought I'd have to pay I only had to pay £26 (which I spread across the rest of our direct debit payments so as not to ruin my NSD!) And from Saturday onwards I never ever have to worry about car tax again! Woo hoo!:j
Sad news is our current car is only really worth about £130 according to the scrap man. Oh well it's £130 more than we had before. I'm amazed it's still driving in all honesty but it is a bit of a trooper!0 -
Well done on the payments

Re the car and scrapman if you can list on eBay you will be surprised at what they can go for (have a look first at completed listings local etc as obviously I can't comment on where you live only where I use to when we sold a few on) xx0 -

We were thinking eBay. Start it at 99p with a reserve of £130 then at least of it goes it will be for at the very least the scrap value. Hubby needs some convincing though as he hates the idea of all the tyre kickers coming round. Theres no rush to sell it though, so there's still time to convince him.0
