    Snip

Mortgages... an investment. One that I realised I couldn't take on just now. You say you want rid of them and will be in your mid 50's... that a long time away when you might win the lottery...:o... but in all seriousness it's an investment. It's not a debt so to speak. But I would be in the boat of "get it paid off asap" which means I will never stop working.. anyone care to share their mortgage amounts per month... I am intrigued... My parents now own their house... monthly repayments were £144. This is Ireland though and they are now in their 60's... it scares me to think if I don't buy soon I might be paying it off until I am a LOT older than any of you....

I don't see my mortgages as 'bad debt', but I do consider them as debt. Ultimately they are something that I've bought with money that I didn't actually have. Maybe I'm being hard on myself but it's because of this that I'm doing what I can to pay them off early.

Our mortgage obligations each month total approx 980.00 GBpounds, gave or take a little for currency conversion rates.

We have a mortgage attached to mortgage number 1, and it is this that I'm referring to when I mention overpaying my mortgage. I'm trying to overpay 1000.00 GBpounds each month. Co-incidentally  this is the amount I earn each month, gave or take. Therefore I work solely to pay towards my mortgage.

1980.00 GBpounds is a lot of money  but broken down over 3 areas it didn't seem so bad  , maybe I've been delusional :o

Anyhoo...........The first property I bought I purchased for 10000.00 GBpounds in 1986 and the mortgage repayment was 80.00GBpounds per month, it's been a long and winding road since then:rotfl:

I'm still following the threads, I'm not sure if I'll join in with the October one as I'll be in the UK for 2 weeks, but will be following you all regardless.

Continue with the good work everybody.:T
  • Just a quick check in tonight. Had a small spend day today as needed lunch and bread rolls.

I went out for tea with my dad tonight - he paid. No alcohol, but no exercise either.

    Totals are now:

    Food - £91.11/£100
    Misc - £109.57/£120
    Petrol - £57.42/£70

Hoping for a SFD tomorrow, and may just make it to double figures!

    See you all tomorrow.

Well got a day off today but creature of habit wide awake at silly o'clock.
Been reading this thread properly for a change just tend to glance at it whilst in work and multitasking.
This forum has helped me a great deal to wake up and realise that I can't go on spending and I don't want to die in debt.
Mortgage Kat after 2 failed relationships now in my own house bought by me 4yrs ago. Pay £ 388 a mth mortgage was for 45k now owe just under 40k. Sure when cc paid off will be targeting this as 11 yrs left on it.

Hopefully work may pick up as only work 30hrs a week take home pay £1200. Take lodgers in now and again to help beat cc debt.

Will update my spends later as needed bunny food yday and chocolate.

  • Hello all! Apologies for being away for a while - I've had 4 NSDs in 6 days! Yay!
so total now at 16/18 - so close!

but unfortunately it all went a bit south yesterday as I was revelling in our SFD supper form the cupboards the OH got annoyed about it and his imposed frugality so I think I need to reconsider my budget and make it more reasonable next month. If it was up to me I would cut all my spends to 30 quid a month and throw everything we had at debts to pay them off but he is not me!

So tonight will be a spend night as I think I need to treat him to thank him for supporting (so far) 16/18 SFDs and I will try for 18 but I might only manage 17 on my first month doing this!

Sorry NSK - hope you don't mind? he gets annoyed when I put most of our wages to debts (and extortionate central London rent - eyewatering!!!!) - so tonight I'll let him spend some of it for a change!!!
(just tongiht mind - I've still got the end-goal in sight!!)

    Big hugs to everyone and
thriftylass - love the buttercream doors!
LSD - happy birthday for the other day!!!
Mr Cobes - you gave your books/magazines away?! Hopefully only your least favourite ones?
NSK - you did amazing on your overtime this month! Absolutely brilliant!!!! I'm thinking about maybe going for a supermarket job in the new year (weekends) to boost my income a little bit.

    ps - bring on October's challenge!!!!! :)

  • Thank u for my lovely birthday messages :D you're to kind...

Yes i did underestimate my pay greatly but it varies so much from month to month, from £1300 to £4000, its hard to budget properly until my payslip comes in so i just always estimate the worst and if i get more happy days :)

Oh the october thread... Cant wait for the next challenge and i'm on board properly for that one! Dh will be back in work, i cant drive until the end of the month and cant walk far after caesarean, so sfd's should add up! Whoopieee!!
Still here..... but working on that!
  • Just back from the dentist with DS (2.5) and he done really well this time. Paid £2 parking but OH paid for that. I think I am on 18/20 :j SFDs as i only spent on the weekends and one Friday and slipped one lunch time. Sunday and Monday should comlete the 20. Might need to get fresh rolls etc tomorrow but still have £20 left in my account despite going over budgets.

Can't wait for October as this is the first month in ages where we don't have any big spends.

........ so tonight I'll let him spend some of it for a change!!!

I truly think you are right to keep the OH happy! If he has supported you to 17 SFD's which is amazing then I think the boy needs a treat! So well done to both of you...

....and on the SFD's you have superbly to be honest for your first month.

Be proud of yourself... another month starts soon. Be happy with your progress. Been looking at your signature.. you are doing SO well with the debts.... [STRIKE]are they all yours or his as well..?[/STRIKE]..just found your diary... OH needs to suck it up then and be grateful for a partner who is on the ball regarding her debts epecially since he has helped you create said debts... but OH's needs kid gloves no... or has he yet to have his lightbulb moment...?

Ok that last comment was you rubbing it in yes..? :rotfl:There is something nice though waking up early, have a cuppa with a bit of morning telly .. then another little snooze... If I lie in to long I get a mahoosive headache cause I miss my morning feeding routine...:rotfl:

So how has it helped - what has clicked now? How many rooms have you got to rent out...? I would turn that house into a money-making machine, advertise for tennants who want a home rather then a house and get a few of them in if I could...

You are on the way up.. I am intrigued to know more..! :)

    thanks NSK!
It was very fun actually! I have quite a competitive spirit and like to push myself!! :D

I have experience from the past when we were so poor we didn't have any money to spend so I am almost anti-consumerist now!! My mum asked me the other day what I wanted for Xmas and I asked the OH if I can ask her to go half's on some blackout curtains for the bedroom!!! :rotfl::rotfl: he said I need to ask her for something nice for myself so am racking my brain at the moment!!!!!

The debt is both of ours - accrued over only about 1 and a half years of reckless spending - oh look at this credit card - lets max it, can we get a store account, has it just gone up to 1900, have we got one each, lets just buy stuff for the hell of it! So we count all our money as joint so now I am chief money manager in our household to tackle debts!

I am horrified thinking back now but I think I was doing it all to keep him happy at the time - silly I know!

will deffo be here for October - and hopefully November and December . . . . :rotfl::rotfl:

just read your update!!! :) No LBM for him!!! He's still as crazy with money as he ever was [insert rude word] - just think he'll never get his head round it!!! but hence why I chopped up the credit cards and still haven't told him!!!!! :)

    mwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! :)
