  • Morning Chickadees...

LSD - such a cool birthday. I got precisely £130 for my birthday too... it's been spent on a few things and I hve £50 left to pay for my Australian Citizenship Certificate and the rest towards my actual Australian passport.... use is wisely...Dvd's can be bought second hand or reduced - spend it all on a bag, real leather, a neutral colour or at least get a silk scarf with it...sorry it looks like I am spending it for you....:rotfl:

Thrifty - are you painting the whole kitchen that colour?.. I love a good dose of shabby chic.. you have done yourself proud... well done... Thrifty by name...:rotfl:

So I am being moved departments in my job.. full rant on my personal journey blog Ultimate Challenge... shan't take up space here... #groan

It's all I can think about now...
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".

Yes, all the doors and drawer fronts will be buttermilk. I leave the shelves and trims in the wood as we decided the contrast looks nice with the red splashback tiles. Just need to whitewash the walls and clean and tidy the whole kitchen (not done it properly since we moved in :o) and I will have a "new" kitchen for about £50.

Today will be another SFD. Sitting here at work hoping that the water tanks run out of water (water supply in area cut off) so I can go home and paint. We'll see ;) EDIT: Nae luck :(

The rest ill keep for my treats :) never ever treat myself.
Still here..... but working on that!
  • Hi everybody - and thanks for your support!!!

I feel much better and more enthusiastic today. It feels like at the moment there is a fight going on between old me vs new me! The new me has seen a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel - debt free and a healthier way of living, and has started trying to develop good habits to get there. Old me has recently crept in and is undermining those efforts - what's the point, you're too old now, you're not good enough etc. and before I know it I'm over spending and over eating.

There are a lot of regrets - I wish I had got into good habits in my teens, I wish I had been taught the value of money, I wish... I wish... I wish... I guess the point is - IT DIDN'T. End of. I can't go back and change the past and re-build my youth - but I can change my own future if I apply myself. I think where I trip up is I don't have a clear vision of what I want from life anymore - nor a great zest for it. I don't know if that is depression talking - or if it's just the way I'm built.

It feels like I'm a butterfly trying to emerge from it's chrysalis - I'm almost there, but this last stretch is hard work and part of me just ants to give in... and yet... if I could just persist and break free - I'm going to fly - and only then will I realise just how far I've come... does that make sense?

So - it's back on the wagon for me. There is light at the end of the tunnel - and I need to sit down <again> and work out just how long my tunnel is - in months. Then I need to give myself things along the way to keep me on track I think. I don't know - I'll have a think about it all today!

Anyhow - I am in for October for sure. Thank you again for encouraging me and for showing me there is another way. You have all pressed on and carried your determination forward and are seeing results too. I've slipped a little - but not so far back - nor have I accrued more debt - so that's good.

As Kat says - onwards and upwards!!! ;)

  • Yeah, Abundant, that's the spirit :j. Everyone slips now and then but well done for picking yourself up again. Focus on the positive things and don't dwell on the past (I'm guilty of that often too).

Yes you can Abundant! Good to see you back too :D

You and I have discussed self-help books before (and it might be useful to others too) and the latest one I've found it called The Slight Edge. It's brilliant, really. The basic premise is that tiny daily decisions build to make huge impacts over time. And that it's as easy to make bad ones as good ones. So it's strategies for choosing the good ones . . . I'm only a couple of chapters in but it's helping already.

Plus I found a free pdf :money: of it by google search:

    Enjoy!

As for me, another SFD today!

I had a naughty spend today. Went to lunch with a friend I have not seen in months- thoroughly enjoyed it though! Mwahahaha! (ahem..that was my spend demon)

She picked me up and I walked home to work off some of the lovely grub and to add to my exercise total...not sure where I am at with that...

So no SFD for me today but a dash of exercise. Silver lining and all :)
