But I do have an issue with the ballot itself, which may make the 75% harder to reach. On a (very quick) skim, and a look at the voting form, it asks for a vote 'in favour of the scheme' or 'against the scheme'. A first thought was that 'the scheme' was the existing insurance scheme, represented by my CPP policy, thus I should vote 'Against'. Only by going back and reading the main letter properly did I see that 'the scheme' is actually the 'scheme of arrangement' for compensation.
This should be stated more clearly on the voting paper, which only says 'scheme', or others who are in a hurry may be misled into ticking the wrong box.0 -
I've had the letters too. The vote letter arrived today. I find it slightly odd that we're being asked to vote on something that ultimately just leads to a "scheme" being set up which allows us to complain. Presumably if we wanted to complain, we'd just fill in the same kind of forms as for PPI claims, escalating to the Financial Ombudsman if we didn't feel the bank investigated properly? Why the need for this scheme at all?
To highlight that, in the FAQ's it has this question and answer:
"What happens if the compensation scheme is not finalised and approved by voters?
If the compensation scheme is not finalised it will not go ahead.
If this is the case you would still be able to complain to CPP or the relevant bank/card issuer in the usual way".
There's also a contradiction in the covering letter. On the same page it says the following:
Policyholders will not have to make a complain to have their policy reviewed
Then:
If you do not return your (claim) form by the date set out in the claim form you will lose your right to claim compensation
So which is it? Do they automatically review your policy or do you have to make a claim?
I've been paying CPP for longer than the 2005 limitation they're citing. I've only ever banked with HSBC, and whilst I can't recall a thing about where and why I took it out, I can only assume it was HSBC who sold it to me. Thinking about it now, I suspect I never needed it. I've certainly had no recourse to use it and when I have experienced some issues with my bank card being skimmed, HSBC resolved it and refunded me rather than CPP.
CPP say they aren't considering claims until they know whether the scheme is to proceed, but I'm wondering now whether to forego them and claim direct from HSBC.0 -
Hi, I have sent my vote off!, I have had CPP for many years and sent off a Template letter to HSBC, suitably amended, I waited for nearly 8 weeks then got a phone call from HSBC, asking why I had not replied to two letters! Rubbish! they never sent one, she asked if I could do a few details over the phone, she also mentioned the date I took out the policy - then gave me the usual CPP benefits. Two days later I received a rejection letter from HSBC! You can go to Ombudsman etc., Should I?0

I suggest doing NOTHING by telephone, you need everything in writing and sent by recorded delivery, a little more expensive, but guaranteed delivery and no way for them to dispute it!Thriftkitten

I just called CPP again today to go over this policy that she said could of been mis sold to me, the lady was much more helpful, giving me the dates that I have had this CPP policy from (2007 til present) and also how much I have paid per year:eek: She also told me that she could see that the policy was activated when I activated the card and because of this it showed that RBS was responsible and not a direct sell from CPP and that I needed to contact RBS, which I did, only to be told that it was nothing to do with them and she put me through to the card protection complaints dept...The lady there raised a complaint, cancelled the policy from today and said I could still enjoy the benefits of the policy until july 2014 hahahaha!!! What benefits I said?? as I didnt even know I was paying for it, so obviously no paper work has come through in all these years... anyhow, she now said that the complain will be put on hold until the outcome of the scheme... is there anything else I can do in the mean time or should I just sit tight??:DThriftkitten

Before CPP decided on this ballott, I complained directly via the Ombudsman who was brilliant! A few months later, lo and behold and full refund with interest!! Very happy man!
I would always give the Ombudsman a try!0 -
Asking a possible dumb question, so expecting one back, but hey ho here we go..... Would mis selling be covered under the card activation heading... I wasn't aware that by activating my credit card I was activating an optional policy that I would be paying for. Dumb maybe, But being a novice with a credit card I assummed I had to activate the card to that they knew only I had received it.Thriftkitten
