Just read the post from t18con re Barclays and CPP.
I am having a similar experience with Bank of Scotland (BoS) with a credit card I've had since 1995. I noted that there was a payment to CPP occuring each month and didn't recall any agreement with CPP themselves or with BoS, for that matter. I phoned BoS and got the payments stopped - only to be informed subsequently that "the agreement is with CPP and you'll have to contact them directly if you want to cancel it - nothing to do with BoS". I contacted BoS and CPP regarding the payments - and CPP wrote back to tell me that they had NO agreement on file with me at all and suggested that I pursue the matter with BoS. This was beginning to smell like a run-around!
I sent off for a copy of the original agreement, enclosing £1 for administration fees (thanks to MSE for the letter format). It appears that there is a tick in the box for "credit care" - nothing more significant or involved than just a simple tick in a little box; no separate form, no separate signature, nothing. Now, I've never applied for any form of credit protection insurance in my life, so I have begun to wonder if that tick was put there in the guise of a pre-condition to the original agreement without the exact nature of what it entailed being fully and clearly explained?
Anyway, I'm going to request a refund from BoS and go through the Ombudsman if (or do I mean 'when') they turn me down!0 -
strange thing is , i'm in a similar position with Barclaycard, but they told me CPP will be in touch, they wouldn't deal direct
I think it totally depends who sold the policy. My credit card was barclaycard, and I had the policy from 1990. I'm guessing barclaycard dealt with mine as it was determined that THEY did the selling. Note that the company providing me with the credit card protection on behalf of barclaycard was NOT CPP, it was marketed as Sentinel and from another firm (affinion). It looks like that some time after 1990, CPP got the contract to supply barclaycard customers with credit card protection, and it appears it is being determined that THEY and not barclaycard were doing the selling (or possible mis-selling).
Giving that there is some sort of official process going on for those customers that had cpp from CPP (!), then it appears those customers will have to go through the official procedure, which looks like taking many months yet.
Anyone who was sold via a different company, and has a grievance has possibly a good chance of getting things resolved quicker, depending on their case and whether their company is quick to accept wrongdoing.0 -
Hi not sure if i am posting in right place as am steamin:eek: Just had a call from RBS regarding a ppi that was put on my credit card the day after I had applied online in 2007 and then apparently cancelled in 2009to which i was none the wiser until a few weeks ago. Apparently like i said i took the ppi out the very next day! Not!! the guy on the phone tonight asked what I was doing for a living at the time... I said I was either not working or working part time, I couldn't remember, he said Oh yes I see, you were working for a company called "One Over" I had to laugh, I didn't know if he was taking the P*ss or beng serious, I have never heard of this company and most certainly was NOT employed by them. I have googled it and cannot see anything under that name. He took all this down and said he would either get back to me via phone or I would be receiving a letter very soon.... am a tad confused and not very happy regarding the false employment company , although I had to chuckle at the name of the company, at least who ever put this PPi on the account had a sense of humour!Thriftkitten

Moneyineptitude wrote: »As already advised on your other threads, it's a myth sponsored by Claims companies that PPI and other financial products were randomly added to loans and credit cards without the permission or knowledge of the customer. Unfortunately, it's far more likely that you have simply forgotten agreeing to PPI.Unless the Bank identify some other error with the sale of your PPI, therefore, I'm afraid your complaint is very likely to fail.
This was a person from RBS who called me tonight. He gave me details of my previous address when the CC was opened, are you saying that this call was NOT from RBS tonight?Thriftkitten

So how do you work that one out when it was added by someone other than myself and then cancelled by someone other than myself, And I was only made aware of it by a letter from CPP. To be honest I'm not sure I care for your tone, your messages are very curt, I don't understand why you bothered to reply to any of my posts, it is not helpful nor polite to come across in that manner and be made to feel as though you are being a pest! After all surely this forum is for people wanting help and you are free to choose whether to help or not.
You made reference to ANOTHER thread that you also commented on, would this be the thread regarding the FOS. If I remember rightly this had NOTHING to do with a CPP letter for PPI on my RBS CC.Thriftkitten

Some people can be a tad pedantic.
What I would do is put my complaint in writing to the bank .Light travels faster than sound.
This is why some people seem as bright until you hear them.0 -
Hi,
i noticed a couple of people asking what to do if they no longer have details of the policy number etc so I thought I would share my experience. As a result of disputing the CPP charge on my credit card again (had previously been incorrectly told by mastercard that it would be cancelled after I disputed it the last time, and the time before that) I was put through to CPP. I had no policy details as I had believed the policy to be cancelled for over 5 years, and the address they held for me was out of date by 5 years and 3 house moves. However, they were able to find the policy number using my name, date of birth and recollection of previous addresses. They then updated my address in their system. When I said I was pretty sure it had been mis-sold in the first place, they gave me the contact number for the redress scheme. Since I now had the policy number from CPP, I was able to correct my address in the scheme's records and they have forwarded me copies of the letters that had already been sent to my old address so I can now be part of the vote. I haven't managed to get hold of a copy of the policy itself, but at least if the scheme does have a positive result I'm now potentially a part of it.
Anyway, my point is that you should be able to get a policy number from CPP by providing other information to them, and once you have that it's very easy to get your details updated for the redress scheme so you vote. I'd also like to add that the customer service people dealing with the redress scheme were great on the phone, took me through everything very clearly and quickly without wasting my time, and I got copies of the letters that had gone to the old address within a week of contacting them.0 -
