I have CPP and identity protection insurance and will cancel it. Should i do this now or wait until we have some more understanding on what will happen next or will this disadvantage me?0

It seems like a lot of people were sold CPP policies prior to 2005 legislation coming into force and don't know how to claim for that chunk. I got sold a policy through Natwest when i opened a student account and credit card with them in 1998. I complained to them directly and made it clear that i wanted to claim for the pre 2005 bit directly through them. It took a few calls with people mistakenly trying to pass me onto CPP but eventually i got through to a department who registered my complaint and they agreed to compensate my with about £180 to cover 1998-2005 plus interest. Actually they were very helpful and apologetic! Anyway this proves you can make this kind of claim successfully. Looking forward to more compensation from CPP once we all vote in favour!0

I was missold CPP, but a very long time ago, probably mid nineties.
I shredded all my old statements a while ago. Also my bank has changed hands several times since, originally Giro bank then Alliance and Leicester and now Santander, so doubt if I have any chance of redress, But would appreciate any advice, just in case.0 -
I took out a policy with CPP prior to 2005 but I haven't received any documentation regarding the compensation scheme. I rang CPP and they told me that the credit card company that I took out the policy through are not part of the scheme. At the time it was a Saga credit card that I was using. Why aren't I covered?0

Just wanting to report some success here! I complained to CPP early last year about a policy sold alongside my egg credit card in 2001. I was passed around from CPP to Barclaycard, back to CPP then on to Egg and then to Canada Square operations and back to CPP - noone would take responsibility. CPP basically said it was Egg that sold me the policy, but Egg/Canada Square said they hadn't 'sold' it as the first year was free and that CPP were responsible. CPP sent me a final response letter and I felt I had hit a brick wall. After 8 months of getting nowhere, I complained to the FOS. Today, two months after sending in my complaint, I received a letter saying they are repaying my premiums plus 8% interest. RESULT AT LAST.
So to anyone else, don't be fobbed off and keep trying.....January 2012 GC £296.96/£3000 -

Also see that the court case is (or was) due for less than 2 weeks time.
I'm still not clear on the criteria to be 'successful':
If the majority of policyholders vote in favour of the scheme it will then need to be approved by the Court. It is intended that a Court hearing will take place at the High Court of England and Wales on 14 January 2014 to consider the scheme and eligible customers may attend this hearing if they wish.
Does the bit in red mean policy holders in total or only policy holders who respond. And is it just a 50% tipping point?
All very weird to me.

did make an earlier post - no replies.. , has anyone had any results using the financial ombudsman ?
my bank have knocked back my claim from pre 2005, even though i believe i have been mis sold this policy?
any other letters to use other than the standard template here?
not made any claims on my cpp policy.
Thank you in advance0 -
I took out a post office credit card a few years ago. I was told categorically that I had to have CPP in order for my credit card application to be successful but I could cancel it later if I wanted. I reluctantly agreed, tried to cancel later but was told by the post office credit card co that I couldn't cancel with them I had to contact CPP directly…
Long story short is I did and I cancelled. I was mis-sold the policy and never wanted it. I have not received any such letter and on contacting CPP have now been told I am not eligible for a letter or refund as 'the commercial partner is not taking part' i-e- the Post Office Credit Card Co / Mastercard.
What is this nonsense? Either I've been mis-sold or not (I clearly was). Does this mean I should just wait for the ruling and then chase CPP again?
CPP were unhelpful basically0 -

I'm in the same position: my policy renews on 25 Jan 2014. Like you, I wonder if I am wasting my money, and in any case my trust in these people is badly dented. However, I figure that provided the YES vote carries the day, any money I pay out for this year's renewal will be repaid along with past years' premiums ... so if I allow the policy to renew in a few days' time (a) I shouldn't be out of pocket in the end, and (b) it might serve as a kind of 'insurance policy' (!!!) by making sure I am a current policyholder and therefore don't risk being disadvantaged when it comes to any payout. But if anyone knows any different, or can quote any policy / document / MSE advice on this, I'd be grateful for an update.0
