Yep. The letter admits nothing. They're dolling out refunds left, right and centre tho, so something is wrong. Suspect if I wrote to all my other previous insurers and asked them for a refund, they'd give me short shrift.

Re HSBC, for the cost of a stamp, I'm happy to wait. Wasn't 18 months last time. More like 10.
  • Massive thank you to MSE, just received a check for £341

    Cheers
  • I've just received my cheque for £358.55 after tax deduction.
I was only expecting £200 ish.
    Lovely easter present.

Many thanks and I'm glad I did it and waited patiently for cheque.
  • I got £279.26 after tax on interest deduction, letter came through last week. Was expecting about £100 at most. Has certainly made my cash flow look a lot healthier for the month whilst paying my car off!

Presumably I can reclaim the other bit back at the end of January with my tax return if I'm under the 20% threshold?

My second attempt with HSBC for claiming pre-2005 premiums has resulted in another 'standard' letter totally ignoring the basis for my claim. Unlike most of their competitors, HSBC seem to be taking the line 'you bought the product, our marketing was very clear and if you don't like our position go to the Ombudsman'.

They probably reckon costs in going this route will be far less than the admin involved in settling individual claims.

Not very impressive, is it? Particularly with reports on this forum of low hassle and successful claims from other banks.

Has anybody made a successful claim from HSBC for pre-2005 premiums?

I've got my £287.18 cheque today - it has hugely helped me out! Wasn't really expecting that at all - nice to see we get interest!

Loads of HSBC customers have been successful with their PPI and CPP complaints. The reason you have received a "standard" reply letter is that you've already complained and the procedure is to refer to the Ombudsman not complain again to the Bank.

Not everyone who complains receives redress. The problem is not the product, but the manner in which it was sold to you. HSBC issues no more rejections than any of the other banks.

If you still feel you have a case, then refer your complaint to the Ombudsman.
