    Wow! :j
Got my cheque for the expected amount from CPP, well happy although this is only a small portion of what is owed to me. The larger portion comes from Santander from 1993 - 2004 which, is now being pursued/investigated by FOS. Officially complained to FOS in January, had to wait 8 weeks and now have to wait again..

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Martin Lewis for bringing this issue to my attention whilst listening to Radio 2 (IIRC) back in 2013.

I was very happy to open an envelope containing a cheque for £196 today! Made my day. Thanks Martin for the valuable advice, as always.

I received a cheque for £329.83 from CPP today for the period from 2005. CPP are also looking into my claim for 2004-2005.

However, HSBC have referred me to the CPP claim address for my 1992-2004 claim for the policy which was taken taken out with Beneficial Bank in 1992. I have filed a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman Service for this part of my claim.

HSBC/Beneficial Bank appear to be extremely dismissive of most claims. Does anyone else feel this way?

I received a cheque today for £257 from CPP but was disgusted to have been taxed £14 as I am not a taxpayer. Surely there could have been a box to tick somewhere on the claim as to whether the interest should be taxed? I spent 32 minutes on the phone (26 minutes of that waiting to speak to an agent) and now have to wait for them to send me a form to reclaim it so goodness knows how long that will take. I was so annoyed I called CPP to complain only to find out that they have been swamped with similar complaints, so there are many many more with the same issue.

In the same post I had a letter from HSBC turning down my claim for the previous 11 years of the policy originally sold to me by them and referring me to the FO. How can that be if it is the same policy? According to the guy at CPP they most definitely should be paying out for those pre-2005 years and he suggested going back to them again, so I will tomorrow.

You can't "tick a box" that you don't want to be taxed! You have to reclaim it from HMRC if you are not a taxpayer!

It might take only a short time to receive the form, but you won't be getting a refund anytime soon as it has nothing to do with CPP. Tax refunds are notoriously slow. Do remember that ringing CPP about tax is like ringing HMRC about a card protection complaint.

The same policy years apart and different financial institutions.

The "guy at CPP" does not decide who will and will not receive redress even for the firm he works for, so he certainly cannot speak for HSBC!

Certificate of tax deducted needed in order to reclaim that tax though?

The letter from CPP with the cheque attached is the tax certificate.

Yes, it's a pretty straightforward process and HMRC can easily verify if the tax has actually been paid. How long HMRC take to refund is another matter.

    Contact HMRC here;

Better in your pocket than the taxman's, whatever the amount.

You can't "tick a box" that you don't want to be taxed!

Building societies pay interest untaxed if you inform them you are not a taxpayer - this is the first time I have had anything to do with HMRC for years and I hope it will be the last!

You have to reclaim it from HMRC if you are not a taxpayer!

I KNOW!!! That is what I said in my post if you bother to read it properly.

It might take only a short time to receive the form, but you won't be getting a refund anytime soon

which was what I said - goodness knows how long that will take - referring to the refund.

as it has nothing to do with CPP.

    Tax refunds are notoriously slow.

    Know that too.

Do remember that ringing CPP about tax is like ringing HMRC about a card protection complaint.

Please don't patronise! If you read it properly you will see that I rang HMRC FIRST for the refund procedure (nothing specific on the website) - that took 32 minutes of my life, 26 on hold - and THEN registered my displeasure with CPP along with thousands of others.

The same policy years apart and different financial institutions.

The Financial Ombudsman told me to claim the first part from the bank as the retailer - was he wrong?

The "guy at CPP" does not decide who will and will not receive redress even for the firm he works for, so he certainly cannot speak for HSBC!

But he did endorse the FO's opinion!

Maybe some of my post was badly worded but I think it was clear enough so please try to be a little less patronising with the "advice".
