It's not a strict deadline and you shouldn't treat it as such. If they take longer than eight weeks the only sanction you can take is to refer to the Ombudsman which takes eighteen months!
Patience is the order of the day.0 -

There is nothing you can do to hurry the process and it's not surprising you are hearing "conflicting information" if you are ringing them continually.

Patience indeed.
Considering that it took FSA/FCA a few years to investigate and then set up the redress scheme, I think 8-9 weeks wait is bearable.
When I had cancelled my policy, I complained about the mis-selling aspect and got pretty much laughed at. At least now, we might get to have the last laugh, even with a long delay.0 -
Having won the settlement (confirmed in writing and seen by MSE staff) I have had a follow up letter from CPP prompting me to look at their products on the website as "they are always here to help!"

Thanks to tux900 and focmcfc for their comments. I also picked up on the exact same mistruth in the HSBC letter and have written to them again to point this out.
They also talked about the 'unlimited cover thereafter' as not having particular emphasis in their literature and yet I have a sales letter which picks out 'unlimited cover thereafter' as a bullet point on the front page of the letter to give it prominence from the fifteen other points detailed on the reverse of the letter.
And it is interesting to compare the HSBC approach with that of some of the other banks and card issuers reported on this forum.
Interestingly I got a letter dated 2 days after you posted this(delivered to my parents so only got it on Sunday) from HSBC with regards to my Pre 2005 claim. They have given me a 3 page questionaire to fill in any further information that they require to investigate my claim. Does this mean they now have a proper process in place? Or is my reason better?
I provided a copy of each payment\bank statement going back to 1998 as they claimed they had no records for my PPI so knew this would be needed. I was sold mine in person at a branch whilst getting a student account if that makes any difference. Looking at the amounts its only something like £80 odd but its better than nothing if it gets paid.0 -
Bobo, I got the very same questionnaire from HSBC but this was a few months back so I think that process has always been in place. They didn't uphold my complaint though and so it is now sitting with the FSA. I'd be interested to hear how you get on, and will do likewise and let you know what happens (although mine could now take some time). I'm confident I'll succeed though as I feel I've got a strong case and that their defence is weak.
Mine too was opened with a student account and total cost was I am sure far less than some of the figures I'm seeing elsewhere. Incidentally, I've got a copy of the 1998 'Midland CardGuard' sales leaflet if a scan of that would be any use to you (it's the front page that's key in my view as it lists all the key benefits of the policy).0 -
