Very many thanks to Martin and his team for helping me to claim back CPPI
insurance, first from them directly, receiving a cheque for £288.66, dating from 2005, and then a few days ago receiving another cheque for £306.09 from the bank First Direct. This bank had initially refused to do anything until I went to the Financial Ombudsman who had dealt with my claim most efficiently, claiming back on my behalf payments from 1992. Thank you again and good luck everyone, keep the pressure up!

Hello to All on MSE,
This is my first time on this forum – as I seek your opinion about my CPP claim.
I started paying CPP before 2005 and paid the annual fee up till 2013.
My home is in Lincoln, Lincs and this is where I will retire to. I pay all the utility bills by Direct Debit which are sent to my Lincoln address including CPP.
I have worked for a French company since 2009 and live in a rented apartment in Lyon. I return to my home in Lincoln on average every 6 to 7 months.
Accordingly I didn’t see the letter sent to me from CPP to my Lincoln address about, ‘You may be entitled to compensation for your card & identity protection policies’ until after the cut off date.
After the cut off date I found on the internet that CPP were saying that a claim will be considered under the following exceptional circumstances, ‘1) If a customer was out of the country for at least six months between 31 January 2014 and the 30 August 2014’
I wrote to CPP and said that I meet the requirement of their exceptional circumstances 1) – I included all the supporting documentation that they required.
CPP replied saying, that I am considered as a French resident so they do not uphold my claim as I live in France for the majority of my time and have not been away from my French address for more than 6 months.
CPP said that they knew that I was living in France from information that they had received from the credit card companies. To which I replied if you knew that I was living in France why did you post the letter, ‘You may be entitled to compensation for your card & identity protection policies’ to my home address in Lincoln? To which they replied because you didn’t change your contact address!
I would be VERY grateful for anyones opinion as to if you think I have grounds to pursue a CPP claim or not?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

I just wanted to thank MSE for the helpful advice regarding CPP claims. I'm delighted to say I received a cheque for the grand total of £408 before Christmas. I have to say I hadn't been very hopeful and didn't think I would receive anything. Good luck to everyone else who is chasing a claim.Books - the original virtual reality.

Hi, I am trying to claim back my CPP. I am aware that the date has passed but I've been in touch with the ombudsmen which haven't been much use on the matter! I sent my forms back last year before the deadline and waited. Colleagues at work received their redress payments and I waited but still nothing. I contacted the CPP and was told I hadn't put the forms in and was given a compliment number to ring.
Upon ringing the company I was told it was possible my forms had been lost in the post! To which I asked what would the procedure was if they hadn't received the forms, they said they resend the forms out to be filled in, when I said I had never received any further correspondence I was told it was possible they were lost!!!
I was told to write in and complain, which I did and was told by them when they eventually got back to me, they told me that the date had gone for reclaiming and there was nothing I could do, unless I met the criteria, which I didn't.
I wrote to the financial ombudsmen and today they finally got back to me saying that they would only be able to look at the settlement offer if I had previously complained to the scheme and received a final redress determination letter. This is what I thought I had received in the first instance when CPP refused to pay any money.
Any advice would be welcome. Thanks0 -
Hi I hope someone can help me. I have just found out that a company called combined benefit services with whom I have been paying a monthly dd too since 1999 closed in 2008. This direct debit is still coming out of my bank though, am I able to claim money paid between 2008 and now? If so who should I talk to? This was taken out to protect my income if I was taken ill for a long period of time or could not work cut to injury.
Thanks in advance0 -
Hi I have had a policy with card guard from 2003. I received a letter but thought it was a scam. I was told I would be contacted again. I believe I have received a letter since then but was sent to a previous address. I phoned today to see what could be done but was told I should have sent the letter back before the deadline which is now up. Is there any way of getting this decision reversed as I had no idea that I could claim anything back and was sold card guard whilst at Uni on the presumption that I needed it .0

My husband has Alzheimer's so I am having to deal with our claim. We received a letter and a form, filled them in with almost identical reasons for the claims and in October I received a cheque for Identity Protection and my husband received a cheque for Credit Card Protection. We waited for his cheque for Identity Protection but it didn't come. After a second phone call, I was told that they hadn't received my husband's claim form for IDP. I wrote in November with the above details, also explaining that we had filled in the form we received and divided our reasons into two sections, one for IDP and one of CCP and asking for them to review the case. I received a standard reply (which didn't address my problem at all) saying they could only review it if we had been abroad and not received the form at all. I wrote again in December and explained that we had only ever received one form each and had filled in our reasons for the claim in two sections on the one form we each received. If you only receive one form, you are not to know there should have been two. The sum involved is nearly £700 a considerable sum when you are a pensioner. I have heard nothing since. Where do I go from here? Can we still claim what is due to my husband? And should I also have been due to receive CCP compensation?0

My mum had sentinel PPI and then it became something else. She can't remember what but always through Halifax. She had had it since at least 1996. Can she claim ?0

I wanted to share news of two successful claims, and send my thanks to this site for providing such useful information.
Just before Christmas I received £109 in compensation for a card protection policy sold to me by Halifax between 1999 and 2003. The product was branded as Halifax Card Protection, and was managed by Sentinel. It was only through reading the guidance on here that I realised I'd been sold something I didn't need, and which wasn't providing any additional benefits above which I would receive as a customer of the bank. Halifax responded to my complaint promptly, and I received a cheque within 6 weeks.
I mentioned my success to my Mum who has held a card protection policy with Sentinel for about 18 years. Just before New Year Mum wrote to Barclaycard (who originally sold her the policy) explaining that had she realised it was not offering any additional protection than she would already receive as a card holder, she would never have taken the policy out. I'm pleased to report that today she received just over £700 in compensation from Barclaycard (as a credit on her latest statement). She has also cancelled her Sentinel renewal which was due this month, and was going to be about £45.
Neither of us ever received a letter about the CPP scheme. We felt we were taking a bit of chance making complaints about pre-2005 policies, especially for mine which only ran from 1999-2003. I am so glad we took a chance. For the cost of a little bit of letter-writing-time, and a stamp, we are much better off.
I was interested to spot elsewhere on this site that a Sentinel redress scheme similar to that for CPP is about to be launched. I'm a newbie so I can't post links, but do look at the main MSE site for further details.
Information is power. Thank you to the Money Saving Expert site for helping us understand and fight for our rights.0 -
I have Sentinel Gold but I cannot remember if I had it before 2005. I was introduced to it by a Credit Card, but I don't know which one probably Egg or Barclaycard but I can't be sure. I had a lot of PPI letters so I may have had the CPP letter last year without realising.
Will I still be able to claim?0
