  • Hi, I sent my cpp claim form back during May, I've still not received any kind of reply, ive just moved house & all my paperwork is boxed away for time being does anyone have a contact number so I can call to find out why I've not heard anything?
  • I claimed speculatively by writing to both CPP and my bank as my Card guard policy pre-dated 2005. I had absolutely no records whatsoever, though I could clearly remember the phone call selling me the policy and how the person I spoke to "bigged" up the risk of fraud. I used Martin's template. CPP said I needed to pursue through HSBC as CPP were only dealing with post 2005 claims, which I then did. HSBC refused to pay out so I went to the Financial Ombudsman - success!- I am now to be paid £325.40 - not bad considering I winged it !
  • Has anyone managed to claim for mis-selling pre 2004? I took out my policy in June 1995 and I provided evidence to CPP in my claim. Whilst CPP upheld my claim and have recompensed me for the period back to 07 Jan 2004 (c£337), they won't pay up for the earlier period  "because CPP was not subject to agreed industry standards prior to this date and therefore not obliged to consider a refund prior to this date"

When I took this to the Financial Ombudsman they stated
"Card Protection Plan Ltd did not become regulated until 14 January 2005 (sic). Therefore, your complaint would be outside of our jurisdiction as it was sold before this date. If the business is not regulated at the time of sale then, unfortunately, they are unable to be held accountable through this service. This is not an attempt for CPP to not pay you the premiums that were paid pre-regulation. I believe that they are acknowledging that there was a mis-sale but are not obliged to pay any of these back"

The CPP Refund scheme ended in August and only covered the period post January 2005. As already explained to you (both by the firm and by the Ombudsman) CPP has no liability for earlier times.

You should complain to the Bank who originally sold you the insurance.

HSBC have finally sent me the settlement letter for the pre-2005 CPP.

Six weeks since I confirmed to FOS that I'd accept their offer.

  • Does anyone know if I can do anything about a CPP policy that I did send the form back to see if I could claim but they did not receive it and I have no proof so now they say it is too late! Any ideas please. Fi

You have no recourse. You failed to chase this up prior to the closure of the scheme.
  • I received mail sometime in Spring which said I didn’t need to do anything yet, and I will be re-contacted later in the year. I was out of the country all of August, and the first I heard about the claim window having closed:( was via a phone call from a company chasing up mis-sold mortgage repayment protection.
Seems very unfair to close this claim in August without any warning as such that I can remember receiving.

Just an update to say I followed all the processes and received my money back from CPP for post 2005 premiums.

I also claimed from HSBC for pre 2005 premiums. As noted in other responses, as expected, HSBC firstly took the route of declining claim. After my referral to the Ombudsman they fairly quickly offered to reimburse ALL premiums pre-2005 plus 8% interest and settled up less than 4 weeks later.
  • Hi. I'm a newby to all this . My late husband and I had an iva a few years ago and got 3 years into a 5 year plan and my husband passed away. (Almost 7 years ago) He had been wise enough to pay into a very good works pension plan and with 75% of this money I completely paid off all of our debts.
2 Years ago I found all the iva paperwork and sent a letter to everyone on the list of debts. They all responded saying no we didn't pay PPI. so I just wondered if that's the end of it. Or is it worth trying again.
Some of the debts were TSB loans , MBNA credit card and debenhams store card. has anyone had any luck a second time of trying?..
