Hi, I only found out about this today via BBC breakfast show. I understand the deadline ends in 3 days, they advised to phone and you were promised to get a form sent today and as long as it was returned immediatly you would qualify, I have been trying to get through on the phone since first thing and get a message to say they are unable to take calls due to demand. I gave up on 0800 and tried the outside the uk line, been on hold now for 35 mins.

I finally got through and was told I am not eligible to claim, I asked about my mother, she had a CPP policy until her death in 2011, I contacted CPP to cancel the policy and sent all the appropriate documentation. They found her policy under her old address and I was told that any letters would have been sent there!!! They will not accept that I am executor for my mother until I send them a death certificate and only once that is received will they consider anything but I will have missed the deadline by then. Why would they send letters to an address where the person had died and not to the executor?
  • gtec, there are no downloadable forms, that's the problem. Even completing the online request means they're sent in the post - as far as I'm aware. I assume this is something to do with their policy of the forms being originals and not photocopies, thought I'm not sure why it makes any difference what forms they are on; it's the claim they're processing not authenticate paper lol. If there were downloadable forms it would make life a lot easier for them and us!

Moneyineptitude, I agree it's a tight delivery service time, but it's not impossible. Plus they are the ones who have given a Saturday deadline, so presumably they have someone there to receive and authenticate that post arrives on Saturday and not Monday morning. Or their post on Monday is delivered after staff arrive so they know that way. Their website says that forms must be received no later than 30th August, which is a Saturday; this suggests there is someone there to receive them and therefore they "could" be sent to be signed for, and or the received Saturday post is date stamped when received?? Anyone's guess I suppose and therefore a punt on how you decide to post it. - However their phone lines are open 8am to 6pm on a Saturday, so this confirms they work on a non-working day. Sorry, I don't mean to come across as obtuse, but I'm trying to problem solve and read between the lines, it's in my DNA lol :)

Either way, you can send forms by next day guaranteed delivery, with a signature is £4.30 ish and without is £3.20. So as long as you expect more than that from compensation it is potentially worth the money.

I'm glad you got through Gtec, good luck getting the forms in time.
  • Hallelujah ! through at last. Form ordered I did ask about hand delivery of completed form to the PO box , got a negative response so will ask the same question of the PO.
  • My mistake, cost for guaranteed next day delivery is approx. £6.40.

Don Panic - its a PO Box, these are usually at the sorting office, these are open to receive deliverys on a Saturday, therefore if you post it Friday it will be delivered to the PO box on the Saturday. That said I'm going to post mine and pay for a Saturday delivery - just to be sure
  • Ive just re read the MSE article. My insurance is through Sentinel Gold.:o At present they hasnt been investigated for mis selling so not sure why I received the original correspondance.
Good luck everyone with getting your claims in on time.

You can still complain about that insurance, just not to CPP. You also haven't missed any deadline to do so.:)

EDIT; Why did the CPP helpline promise to send you a new form then? You must be on their system for something else!

    Hi All,

Like others, I just realised that the deadline was looming when I saw CPP mentioned on the news this morning. Cue frantic search of paperwork and the eventual discovery of the form. Seems that I'd thought that the letter containing the application form was a repeat of the letter sent out to inform people of the scheme.:embarasse

Anyway, it's filled in (using the wording suggested in the guide here on MSE - I thought that it covered me for upto £100,000) and I just have to post it. However, the envelope that was enclosed with the letter is second class - do I have to return the form using the supplied envelope, or can I use first class, or as suggested here guaranteed next day delivery?

    Hope someone can advise,

    Cheers,

    Cal.

Use any envelope you like as long as the address is correct. It's your choice whether to pay extra for delivery.
