On the basis of this success I would encourage anyone else who had a pre-2005 claim against HSBC rejected to raise it with the FOS for an independent view. Don't be put off by the pessimists claiming an 12-18 month lead time - mine was all done and dusted in less than 5 months and involved nothing more than a relatively straightforward completion of a claim form.
I've filled in the Ombudsman form for my HSBC CPP (1998-2005) tonight.
Didn't take long - especially as most of the work has already been done (e.g. include a copy of my letter to HSBC, a copy of the questionnaire sent to HSBC and a copy of their final response).
Will be interesting to see what happens.PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0 -
Hi all
Apologies have not read any of this thread, but I've had a form from CPP but I have no idea what product this would have applied to
So I have no idea if it relates to :
Card protection
Identity protection
Other misselling
I don't even know which financial product it would have applied to (not a lender, I mean whether it was a credit card, car finance, mortgage application etc).
So what would I state on my form? From the article on the main site it seems that there's a template for specific scenarios.
If this has been previously discussed then apologies and please just direct me to the appropriate bit.0 -
Hi
I made a claim pre 2005 to barclaycard, only posted letter to them over a week ago and have already received a credit payment back onto my barclaycard visa of £336.14on 21/8/14 which now means I have a plus balance on my account . Will be calling customer relations tomorrow to ask for payments to be transferred into my current account or to send me a cheque as I no longer use the card .
So anyone out there who had CPP before 2005 don't let the banks fob you off , I didn't receive a letter from CPP and when I called them they could not trace my policy number ,so I wrote directly to the bank and I had no evidence apart from the sticker and policy number inside my cheque book.
Good luck0 -

The number is in the letter you have received, mentioned over and over in this thread and included in the MSE advice article.
The number is 08000 83 43 93.
The MSE advice article is here;

Remember that you only have until the 30th August to complain.
I wouldn't say forlornlyunfortunately only just read this reply to my query. Thanks for the number, I'll call tomorrow. However, considering I only have 4 days to get the answers I need and apply for a new form, I think I've missed the boat...

Does anyone have an example of a letter they have sent to CPP where they didn't include any account details, or statements? Surely not knowing means you can't have anything to legitimately complain about?
Anyhow, I'll call tomorrow, but from the sounds of it the phone lines are not responding now anyway. I guess it's worth a quick punt.0 -

It relates to a specific company - Card Protection Plan LTD (CPP) for card protection and/or identity protection policies.
They were sold via a number of banks, including:
CardGuard (offered by HSBC)
Card Protection Plus
Card Safe (offered by M&S Bank)
Barclaycard Card Protection
Barclays Cardholder Protection
NatWest Card Protection
Egg Emergency Cover
Card Protection Plus and Commercial Card Protection (these were sold by CPP and a number of its business partners).
There is a post-2005 redress scheme, but you may be too late now - the deadline for the form is 31st August.
There is also the option to complain to the individual company (e.g. HSBC/Barclays etc) for the pre-2005 part of any policies.PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0 -

So what do I do not knowing which financial product I had that it applied to? I'm going to complete the CPP form and post by special delivery on Wednesday or Thursday so it is received on Friday.
A post 2005 claim wouldn't affect me since I definitely wouldn't have taken out any such product after 2004.0 -

Did you cancel the policy before 2005?
If so, you don't need to contact CPP.
If it was still live post 2005, you'll need to fill out CPP's questionnaire with your details, the product you had, the CPP reference/policy number etc.
See the link above for all the info
Can't seem to paste it here, it ended up at the top (using a mobile phone)...PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0 -

That's the article I read before posting initially in this thread. I don't know what the product I had was as per previous posts.0 -

It'll either be a policy to "protect you" in case you lost your cards, keys etc and inform your banks to arrange replacements.
Or it'll be identification fraud protection.
I believe thats the only cover being addressed. It isn't to do with illness, redundancy, etc cover - its just the two types above.
as for which bank etc, I guess only CPP can answer that seeing as they sent you a form, assuming you've not got the paperwork/bank statements etc.PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0
