I recently received compensation from CPP for payments made to my Marks and Spencer Card Safe policy,,from 2005. I have had this policy since Dec 1990 and have since tried to claim back premiums paid post 2005 from CPP who sold the policy for M & S. My claim has been refused in a 'final response letter' from CPP. As expected they are saying they were not subject to agreed industry standards prior to 2005 and they have advised that I can take my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman . I am going to do this and have down loaded the appropriate form from the Money Saving web site but I was wondering if anyone else is in the same position. Thanks

I am in a similar position having had M&S Cardsafe from 1988 until I cancelled last year. I received a cheque for post 2005 premiums paid yesterday but intend to write to M&S directly about earlier premiums. There is info on their site and they appear to be encouraging people to write to them, giving address etc. Also, the cheque from CPP does not even cover all premiums paid for the policy from 15/1/2005 because I took out 3 year policies, and premium covering over two years from 15/1/05 until renewal in 03/07 was actually paid in 2004. I would have expected them to refund the post 01/05 proportion of the 3 year premium. Seems it was a disadvantage to pay for 3 years instead of annually. Have people in general just been receiving back what they paid in premiums? Just wonder why many report refunds of several hundred pounds while my (incomplete) refund was tiny by comparison. CPP redress freephone helpline says only premiums actually paid in 2005 or after are covered and no proportion of 3 year ones. Bit unfair?

Found a payment of £15 (just a one-off annual payment, not monthly) to "card protection tel" on my mum's bank statements from 2003 and 2004. Is this likely to be a CPP payment? It seems low compared to the amounts people are listing here! She seems to be missing her bank statements from 2005-2008, but CPP have sent her a letter and claim form, so she presumably had *something* post-2005 to qualify, although whatever it was, it had been cancelled by 2008. Is it best to just fill out the form assuming she had CPP, but not ID protection? Or still fill out for both, since we're in the dark about what she had?

EDIT: have just re-read the MSE notes (first read them over a month ago) and it says if you have had both CPP and ID protection, then they send you 2 separate letters, so I guess I can assume my mum only had the CPP and not the ID protection?

I assume that unless I can figure out who "card protection tel" was being paid to, then she can't claim for pre-2005 amounts? She doesn't have any bank statements from before 2003 either.

    Thanks
  • Hi all

I received a letter but like all of you remember the key fobs but not who I got the insurance through and how long ago. However, I heard back very quickly and received just over £100 but do I bank their cheque or would it have cost me more and should the refund reflect this ?

Since no one here can possibly tell you how much you paid to CPP and you have no documentation to suggest that you paid more than you have been awarded, I suggest you just enjoy the modest windfall.

No, you'll have to contact the CPP Refund Team. You are cutting it fine, though, because complaints will not accepted after August 2014.

I really can't see how I can claim anything anyway. I just had my keys and credit cards covered for many years and paid a lump sum to cover me for 3 or maybe 6 years at one point. I stopped paying a few years ago because it had gone up more than the £6 a year I think I was paying!!!! Most would have been pre 2005 .

If you received a letter then you can complain. The amount may be negligible, but better in your pocket surely?

I have just contact CPP as I haven't received a claim form as advised on the CPP claim pages. i was told that because my CPP was taken out under an Ikea account card that they aren't covered under the scheme.
Does anyone know how I can go about claiming under these circumstances or who I need to contact?
    Thanks

You have to complain to Ikea.
