  • Hi, I wonder if anyone can clarify the position regarding the mis-selling of CPP ID protection. Can I only reclaim if I was sold this as a stand alone policy directly over the phone by CPP? I rang them today as I have not received a letter from them but was told that as it was for an ID protection policy taken out through and paid for via a Virgin Money Credit Card I couldn't claim against CPP. Probably won't be worth pursuing Virgin as I'm now on a DMP and they are one of the creditors. Thanks for any advice.

I'm just about to send my claim form off. Do people generally use the pre-paid envelope, or send them recorded for extra security? I just don't want my claim form to go missing in the post.

I just used the pre-paid envelope and received my cheque within a few weeks.

Thanks for the reassurance. I've just sent it using the pre-paid envelope.
  • I have had a CPP process since 1986 until I cancelled it in 2006. I went through the process and received compensation going back to 2004.

I applied to the Financial Services Ombudsman for help with compensation for 1986-2004 as it was the same contract.

The FSO says that by law they can only act for the period when the CPP was regulated by the FCA or its predecessor. Fair enough.

So what options are there to claim compensation for the 18 years when CPP was not regulated. Is it the small claims court or nothing?

    Thanks

Probably not even the small claims because you have to show they did something wrong, and how will you do that if the process wasn't regulated?

  • I had CPP Card and Identity Protection.
Using your templates to complete my claim forms, I have received a total of £635 compensation.

I had this included in a pay-for bank account that included things like mobile insurance (which I have used), travel insurance, etc. Is this included?

    Still no cheque.

They confirm that they received all necessary documentation to process the claim 19.12.2013.

I knew nothing of this matter relating to my late Husband and therefore sought and acted upon their advice every step of the way. I was initially very impressed with CPP.

The cheque arrived but had to be returned because it was made payable to my late Husband. I was told that despite acting upon their instructions, it was also necessary to write a letter stating specifically that the cheque should be made out to me.

I returned the cheque together with a letter of complaint 29.04.2014.

The reply received 14th May advised that a new cheque had been requested but could not be sent until they had proof that it had not been presented .... that same cheque which was actually in their hands!

I queried this in June and was told that the cheque had been requested.

A further enquiry this morning confirmed that the cheque request had been made in May....... must be Groundhog day, and that they had absolutely no way to fast track situations like this where something had clearly gone wrong somewhere.

So pleased for the folk who post that they have submitted their forms and promptly received a cheque of whatever size....... just wish I was one of them.

So nearly 7 months later and no further forward. Absolutely disgusted with CPP now and feel sorry for the staff who are trying to use what is clearly an inadequate system for anything out of the ordinary.
