Referring a complaint to the Ombudsman is currently taking in excess of eighteen months. Other people's success (or failure) is irrelevant as every case is decided on it's own merits.

I asked as I wondered if anyone who had applied to the FOS had had any success at all as yet
, although I realise that every case is dealt with individually as you say. I guess there's nothing to lose by sending off the forms. Hopefully, as other banks have paid out, that may be taken into account by the FOS....

Other cases are completely irrelevant to yours. The Ombudsman service is there to arbitrate and is not somehow swayed in the manner you imply.
If you have made a robust mis-selling complaint that the bank have unfairly rejected then FOS should overturn the decision. If you have been rejected fairly then the Ombudsman will side with the Bank.

    You'll know next year sometime..

I had CPP for many years until they hiked up the price. I think last time I paid it was a lump some for 5 years .
I have no paperwork any more but have been sent the forms to fill in. I still have my CPP number though on my keyring.
As far as I know I was only paying for credit/debit card protection and key protection where a lost keyring with the CPP tag could be put in a letter box. I do not remember ever seeing Identity fraud with my policy. It wasn't around when I took it out. I remember I used to pay £6 a year for it.

So am I eligible to try and claim and if so for what???

Assuming you mean 1995 rather than 2995, then the answer is yes.
The CPP scheme only covers the period post 2005.

I so not understand, when this website's Help page
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/CPP-card-protection#help

    states on point 4 that:
If you had a policy sold before 2005, but that was renewed after 2005, you'll form part of the scheme explained above.

i.e. I should be compensated for the pre-2005 insurance as part of the post 2005 scheme.

    Very confusing.

The worst is, the form they give "releases CPP from any further liability for any claims I may have against them" so you can see why I am anxious to clarify this point.

My CPP insurance started on 1995 and did not end until 2007.

No, as already stated, the CPP scheme only covers the period post 2005.
Only if you have renewed after 2005 will you be eligible and, even then, you are only refunded post 2005 payments.

Not at all. As I told you on the 13th May 2014, you have to complain to BOS for the earlier period.

Sent my form for M&S card safe scheme 2nd June, they received it 16th June on their system (I phoned them aster receiving a letter saying I'd not yet claimed) and today I've come home to a cheque for £125.92:T

Thanks to MSE templates and forum.

I know I had a CPS plan with HSBC years back but maybe pre 2005 but not got a single record or statement about that so not sure if I'd get anywhere trying to claim there as no evidence of any sort or dates.

    £125.92 is great.
Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

Sealed pot challenge number 9 number 482
  • A cheque for £363 has arrived!

Thanks to MSE :money:because if they hadn't reported on it, I'd have never known about the misselling as I cancelled before I moved house and the claim form had been sent there.

Off to get some new shoes :D
    LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013
    Total repaid: £10,490.31

Apologies I am new to the forum and forums in general so if I am posting in the wrong place please advise.

I have recently received compensation for a CPP card policy dating between 2005 and 2014. The compensation covered 2 policies 1 from 2005 - 2008 for HSBC and the other for 2008 to 2014 for Barclaycard. I am informed I had my HSBC policy was in fact from 1996 but could only receive compensation from 2005. If I want to pursue claiming prior to 2005 then to discuss directly with HSBC, I assume that is a different process I must follow?

Secondly I also had a CPP ID protection policy but I am informed that the FSA do not believe these to be mis-sold, is this correct? The ID policy was taken out at the same time as the CPP card protection and both were sold to me on the premise that I needed them both to protect the card and account I held with Barclays. Why have the FSA considered that ID protection was correctly sold and card protection was not? I am intrigued as both were sold under the same scare monger tactics. Is there any worth in me pursuing the fact that I was mis-sold ID protection?

You can make a complaint about anything you want to.
  • Dear MoneySavingExpert,
I'd be grateful if you'd tell me how to go about claiming mismanaged CPP
dated from 1992? The problem is that I'm with my current bank only from 2004 and beforehand I had another bank dealing with this between 1992 and 2004. I have made continuous payments to CPP for the last 22 years by direct debit.
The question is, do I write and use the Template on your site for banks or ask my current bank to get in touch with the previous bank whose customer I was ever since I started paying CPP?
    Thank you for your advice,
    molirack
