I've changed credit cards plenty of times in the last few years (thanks to MSE advice). Can you reclaim for closed credit card accounts and how do you find out if you had this CPP on them?

THE HIDDEN DAMAGE BANKS CREATED FOR 1000's OF PEOPLE

When the credit bubble/crunch broke, many people claimed on their PPI insurance as they had lost their job etc and could not afford to pay. Whatever their reason, banks quickly declined claims as not being applicable and claiming PPI customers were not covered. The banks, all of them, then commenced on a feast of harassment and debt collectors and this resulted in credit files being severely damaged which in turn severely damaged the people who had honestly believed they had paid for protection.

Before the credit crunch, people used their credit cards in the firm belief they were protected. As we know, the banks lied and accepted PPI payments well knowing that most policies would not pay out.
This is not only common theft but fraud.
There must now be a system applied whereby damages can be claimed from banks for the damage they caused to normal people by ignoring claims with excuses and lies and then destroying their credit files and their lives
  • Just my two penn'orth to reinforce what Martin was saying on TV this morning. I sent in my claim on the form they sent me using one of the pre-worded template letters & got a cheque for £400.80 last Friday.
  • I called CPP this morning and they said that my policy is not eligible for a refund because of the way it was sold (they didn't give details), but that i could claim from the provider (which was MBNA). Is anyone aware of how I go about this? Can I just complete the 'card protection reclaim' letter in the 'Were you mis-sold CPP before 2005' section of the article and send it to MBNA?

    Many thanks in advance!

My question is, what is the best response to put in the "why do you want to be considered for compensation?" Thanks.
    The MSE advice article (written by Amy Ellis, not Martin Lewis) is here;

    Good luck with your complaint.

Yes, just as the article states-you have to send pre-2005 mis-selling complaints to the original seller (not provider) of your insurance rather than CPP.
  • Hi,
I saw Martin on GMB today and have dug out my cpp identity protection policy.

We moved last year and I had forgotten to change my address with them, so obviously hadn't received a letter. I gave them my new address and was informed that I wasn't eligible to claim with them because I hadn't purchased my policy over the telephone, when I challenged the young man on the phone and said I believed I had purchased it over telephone, he said 'oh yes you did but that was through Barclaycard and not us, therefore you cant claim through us. I will send you a letter explaining and maybe you can claim through Barclaycard.' However, when I looked on the Barclaycard website regarding cpp, it redirects me to the cpp redress website. It appears to be a vicious circle.

How do I claim without a form, as they wont send me one, because they say I'm not eligible through their scheme?

Oh and I first purchased in August 2007, so not before 2005.

Complain to Barclaycard as you've been advised.
  • Thank you, would you advise that via telephone or should I complete the 'card protection reclaim' letter as advised to jenelaine above?

    Many thanks for your help
  • I have received a CPP letter and as I wasn't sure who I had taken CPP with I rang them to query it. They said it was with Barclays from 2001 until 2010. I only have a debit card with Barclays but did have an Additions account during this period. Is the CPP for the Additions account as I thought bank accounts were something separate? If so not sure what the reason I want to be considered for compensation is? Thanks
