I took out a CPP policy in 1998 and paid premiums every 3 years. I cancelled it on 28 June 2006 when I became aware that the card protection portion of the policy was provided by the issuer of my cards. My last payment was in July 2003 - before the 2005 cut-off and as I hadn't received a claim letter, I wrote to them.

In their final response to me, CPP stated that "although my complaint has been upheld, the policy was mis-sold to me prior to their FCA Regulation on 14th January 2004 and they are therefore not obliged to consider a refund".

So I used the Ombudsman Service who eventually told me they "are not able to consider my complaint as it relates to events which occurred when CPP was not a member of the General Insurance Standards Council".

Letters only go to customers who have had the insurance since 2005. For earlier complaints you must go to the Bank who originally sold it to you.

I took out my policy directly with CPP in 1998 from their flyer which was enclosed with my new credit card. When I tried to claim, CPP told me I was outside of their scheme as although I held a policy in 2006, I had not paid a premium after FCA Regulation in Jan 2004 - I paid my last 3 year premium in July 2003.

I registered a complaint anyway and the outcome is in my previous thread.

I had a claim letter, completed it and got my compensation, I opened my CPP identity account about 3 years ago.

My husband took his out the year before mine. He hasn't received a claim form so rang up the helpline and was told to contact the bank as they had sold it to him.

    Are they right?

My mum and I were sold CPP card protection through alliance and Leicester. I had card and ID protection and my mum just had card protection. We filled in the forms following the guides on here around three weeks ago and I've just received a cheque for £750 and mum £107!

    Thanks!

Thanks for your advice and help Martin .Today I received 2 cheques totalling just over £400, which covered 2002-2005 and 2005 to 2014. Absolutely thrilled.

Advice article was written by MSE staff, not Martin Lewis who sold this site some time back.
Regardless, well done on your success.
  • Hello money lovers!
I've got my cheque from CPP of £61.
I'm quite disapointed, but I'd like to know if I can dispute that and what would be the reasons that I could justify why I'm unhappy with the settlement?

Only reason you could "justify" disputing the amount is if you have comprehensive documentary evidence (statements) clearly showing that you paid more than they are offering. If you don't have such evidence, a refusal is futile and just delays payment.

You will only ever receive a refund of the amount you actually paid plus interest. The amount is not somehow negotiable.

NannyGail this happened to me too. My husband died in October and I followed their instructions to the letter sending a copy of the death certificate and letters of administration because there was no will (incidentally I think that all of this info is a matter of public record rather than private). The refund was also made out to my husband and I was advised that it was CPP's policy to issue in the deceased's name, request it be returned, and then re-issue it to the legitimate claimant! I struggle to imagine how they decided that this was an appropriate way to deal with these situations .... as if losing someone isn't bad enough without stupid, unnecessary procedures.

Cheque returned 24.04.2014, no progress since.

Received a letter today which is I suppose some sort of apology acknowledging that if I had been told in the first instance that I had to request that the cheque be made payable to me when I sent the initial paperwork, then there would not have been this further delay.

Also advised that it would take a further 4-8 weeks before the cheque is processed (time required to prove that the cheque I returned to them has not been cashed!!!!).
