Moved my business from BT to XLN a couple of years ago and have been very happy with the service they provide. I have found them far cheaper than BT and my queries have always been efficiently dealt with. I have just contacted them to ask them to remove the call divert option that I had been using , and was pleased that without asking I was given the name of the operator I was speaking to ,a reference number for the call and then an email sent to me confirming by request.
    Another first-time-poster singing XLN's praises.

Excuse me for being VERY suspicious.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • I would just like to alert everyone to the fact that XLN Telecom are still a company to be avioded like the plague! We are a small business who signed up to broadband and telephone and never got the promised service- 0.5 download speed an 0.1 upload!
However, that wasn't the half of it- there were spurious charges for 'non NGN surcharges' and other inventions. One employee told me that the non ngn charge was because we have a fax (we don't)!!!
Anyhow, after much hair pulling and letter writing we managed to get an ombudsmans decision that we had been lied to and poorly treated and that they had to release us from our contract without penalty. Even after this though they continued to send bills and cause considerable annoyance.
It is definitley worth getting the help of the Ombudsman services communications- they helped us get away from the most awful company I have ever used- BEWARE!!!

I've come home for christmas/new years to find my mum angry and frustrated over XLN, having been authorized to talk to them, I find myself increasingly wanting to scream/cry at the lack of response from them, I have spoken to many a Nicholas, Nicola, Nick...ect, they all seem to have a similar name and a similar "I can't really help you, you're stuck with us" attitude.

Is there anyway I can get out of this contract without paying the cancellation fee? it's really ridiculously expensive, and they are charging us at double the amount we paid before we failed to cancel the contract after the first 12month was up and before we knew it, we were forced to stay with them, my dad was actually told we wasn't allowed to move. I've just had a look at the bills sent to us, caller display costs £1.99 a month even when it was originally promised that there will be no extra charge.

I'm also confused about the online account, when my mum registered online with them to pay the bill, it keeps telling us that there are no outstanding charges in the account, yet we're still getting a number of letters from them informing us of the late charges and the amount we own them

Well from some of the comments made on this forum and elsewhere on the interwebs, I would advise people to avoid them,

Having scoured their web site, and in particular their t &s's they seem to fail to mention anything about a £200+ cancelation fee or notice period required in order to avoid such fee's

Also they from what i can gather are still operating a auto renewing contract, this i'm fairly sure was outlawed dec 2011, even bt no longer have auto renewing contracts now

As for taking ADSL and phone, this could mean that your line becomes Fully unbundled without your knowlage (using XLN )

This will be a resold Talk talk (Opal ) product, where possible, and some will know all about the downtime involved and the less than straightforward and sometimes costly process of migrating both line and services to the normal BTwholesale rental platform
Sometimes people resort to just getting a new line installed, and starting again keeping ISP (adsl) seperate from the WRL

I would be talking to OFCOM and Trading Standards and the ASA!
  • People be warned I am with XLN and am trying to get them to pay my BT cancellation fees they say i have to extend my contract which was not said to me i have received recorded call from xln and extension was not mentioned so I have referred the complaint to OFCOM and my bills are never wat they are meant to be each month (£27.95) was what i was told but they range from £40-£60 each month and get charged an extra £6.00 for paying by debit card as i cancelled direct debit as they were going into account at diff times of month and taking money out. STAY AWAY from XLN. I sent them original BT bill in Sept and only received an email from then 2 wks ago stating my contrac would have to be extended by another 2 years. for XLN to pay the BT charges for disconnecrtion of contract with BT. So we are now referring to OFCOM and seeking legal advice.
  • i signed up to this company last year. When they sent me the router for my computers it was inadequate and i advised them accordingly. I was informed that this would incur a charge which I reluctantly agreed too. When the new router arrived and it was plugged in it was immediately obvious that the whole thing did not work. I informed xln immediately that the router and their service was not fit for purpose and i cancelled straight away and sent back all equipment. They are now trying to take me to court for cancellation of the contract but i have informed the debt collectors that i am content to go to court over this. If you have any sense you will not sign up to this company as they are useless!!!!!
  • I received an unsolicited sales call from XLN.com offering reduced rates and a seamless uninterrupted changeover of landline and broadband. I declined but was telephoned again
the next day. After a long conversation I agreed.

On the 28/09/11 the switch over to XLN.com took place. My landline was working but I had no broadband connection.

Over the next two days I telephoned XLN.co 17 times and was told the following.
My Broadband would be connected the next day, within 48 hours, within 3 days, in 10 days.

I informed them that they were in breach of contract as I was verbally, and in writing, informed that there would be no disruption of service.

I telephoned to cancel and was made false promises.

I canceled three times within two days of signing after discovering that I had been mis sold a contract.

I wrote by letter to Tony Fitzpatrick head of customer services at XLN.com. Mr Fitzpatrick did not reply.

I switched back to my original telephone and broadband provider with the loss of my landline number plus a £50.00 charge for reconnection and a new number.

Since then I have been receiving phone calls, texts daily, letters weekly and bills monthly for services never received and a landline I do not have. Today 09/02/12 I received another
    emailed bill.

I have received 9 letters stating that:

My inbound calls have been barred.

    A disconnection notice

    A bill for £199.99 + VAT

    Another bill for £166.00.

All for services never received on a landline I do not have.

Your help in bringing to an end this unwarranted harassment would be greatly appreciated.

Why do people continue to accept what a COLD CALLER tells them on the phone is the truth? I will never understand it.

    They mess you around
    Hi

My mum is thinking of joining XLN Telecom for her business phone. She runs a small business.

I have read on here lots of nasty things about them - mainly from the first half of 2006. Things like them signing people up who had only requested information and also them being investigated by OFCOM for having lots of complaints.

What's anyone's more recent experience? Have they improved since those stories last year or would you still not recommend using them?

    Many thanks
    James
