I really hate XLN. I go through phases where I get hassled by them on a daily basis. to the point where I just swear continually down the phone until they hang up, usually describing their MD Christian Nelleman in very fruity language.
Despite Ofcom finding against them in 2006, they persist in mis-representing themselves as being "the wholesaler of BT"

Once upon a time, an XLN telecom sales agent/rep came in to my business premises, and attempted to slam me from BT to XLN by hiding the XLN logo on his pad. He's the only person I've physically removed from my premises too,
  • own a business - been with xln for a few years - found them to be pretty good. had to leave in the end - because broadband is not unlimited usage. I f you decide to leave they will impose termination charges.

Be wary of XLN's £25 all in package - this is LLU and you will be stuck with them. The only way you would be able to move to another provider when it all goes wrong :), is to pay £100+ to have a new line installed.
The messages that they send in regards to cancellation fees is a standard message, whether you are in a contract or not - they roll all of their customer into new contracts.
If you do cancel in time and follow their terms and conditions of some random number of days beofre your contract ends, but then dont switch to another provider within a certain amount of time they roll you into a new contract.
Real nightmare of a company - Im talking with a lot of experience of their silly antics.
  • XLN are to be avoided at all costs, they deliberately make grand sounding claims about how good value their packages are but then hide in the small print things like rolling contracts that require a minimum of 42 days prior written notice to cancel otherwise you are automatically signed up to another 12 months.

Not only do they treat customers badly they scam potential employes getting them to work for free.

It also seems that the only positive mentions of them on the net are obvious stooges.
  • STAY WELL CLEAR OF XLN

worst company ever - they will cold call and then the next thing you know they have put you on contract - you will then spend months trying to get out to.

This happened to a mate of mine, he threatened them with all sorts but they couldnt care a less. To top it off they took his phone number and BT couldnt get it back for him either.

    Dont go anywhere near them.

It seems strange that all the people praising XLN telecom only have one post!

I am using XLN Telecom and can easily say that they are the worst ISP provider I have were used. They make BT look amazing! If you are worried about my low post and want to discount it then I'd advise you read my review and just google the company and you will see that complaints and bad reviews are the only thing they excel in! Read other reviews and all you will see is that this company is awful at best and provides the worst level of service

Check out the reviews at Ciao and the Reviewcentre.

    AVOID this company!

When we migrated our broadband from AOL to XLN, we were advised that we would get a very fast service and even better customer care as we opted for their top package. This could not have been further from the truth.

We've experienced countless problems ranging from extra hidden charges to not being sent any account details to narrowband speeds on a supposedly 24mb connection!

The lastest problem is ridiculous and I have found out that XLN Telecom are out and out lying about their service. We have not been able to use video streaming such as youtube unless we let a 2 minute clip buffer for about 60 -90 minutes! Clearly, this is not acceptable from a 24mb line (we know our line can achieve atleast 8mb).

I phoned XLN to ask why video streaming was not working, and they advised us that this is because of BT restricting speeds for non business applications and as they are using BT then the affects roll on to XLN customers. The sales team, however, do not mention this and still say you will receive the fastest service regardless of your use and video streaming should not be a problem. I phoned BT and they stated that they do not restrict the service or speeds for those on home or business packages and that youtube should not be a problem.

It appears XLN Telecom are lying regarding this service and mis-sold the package to us. Upon enquiring about cancelling the service because it was not was advertised we were advised that we would have to pay 24 months worth of service and an extra £199 cancellation fee!

What is the best way to get XLN Telecom to provide the service they advertised, we were advised by the sales team of and what we are paying for?

XLN are a terrible company that you should avoid. They mis-sell their services, apply hidden charges and advertise false facts about their service. When you add in the extra costs that they conveniently hide from their website, their service is very expensive and totally inflexible. Just google the reviews of this company and you will see that they only specialise in complaints and annoyance!

How long is your contract and when did it start?

Have you actually checked what speed your modem/router is syncing at?

Have done a speed check and all seems fine in that we are receiving upto 5mb which is not great when you've got a 24mb line but understandable. The issue is whilst browsing is generally not too much of a problem, when it comes to video streaming it simply just doesn't work unless you allow it to buffer for an hour for a 2 min clip. Never had this issue with previous ISPs even when we only had a 2mb line!

XLN are deliberately holding back on video streaming despite sales people stating we would receive unrestricted and uncapped access. Our neighbours have BT and they have no problems and we previously did not have any problems with using AOL.
