Are XLN any good

A "speed check" isn't the modem/router stats.

We have just cancelled our contract with XLN and have been hit with a hidden cancellation charge of £199.00
No warning of that as we cancelled the line, so negotiate carefully.
Either that or wait until your contract comes up for renewal and just don't renew.0 -
XLN - Company has had more positive press than negative - too easy to be negative I think - all companies have problems from time to time. I've been pleased with them since joining 12 months ago - short term contract, cheap prices, courteous when I've had to call0

Thanks for that information Lanc.
However, first time posters praising companies in threads full of the opposite opinion are rarely believed.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Yet another First Timer promoting one of these not so cheap
companies.:D this is what their T&C says about their contracts
Contract length - The duration is specified on the contract that we posted to you and is on a rolling basis which automatically renews at the end of the period.
Cancellation - If you wish to end your contract with us, you may do so at the end of any contract renewal period, providing you give us a minimum of 42 days prior written notice. If you wish to end your contract with us without giving us the required notice, you will be charged your monthly line rental and package fees in advance up to the end of your contracted date or a minimum disconnection fee of £199 + VAT should you terminate your contract within 3 calendar months of your legal termination date.
Another thread about them here worth reading. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5352280 -
Think carefully about using companies which lock you in for extended periods and who then auto-renew for the same period. It may tell you something about the quality of their products and services.
In contrast, and from this page on the IDNET website (no I don't work for them or use them):
http://www.idnet.net/solutions/business/phone/One Month Contracts
One month minimum contracts with no cancellation penalties are available to give you the confidence that you are not locked in.0 -
I just wanted to add my name to the list of business people ripped off by XLN Telecom... with the £233.83 inc VAT cancellation fee. I complained using the number on the Invoice and the lady gave her name as "Ronaldo" (yes really).
I have a principle that I will never deal with a company again who I consider to charge unfairly. I have my home phone with them and will be switching that away as well.
MY ADVICE TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR INFO ON XLN TELECOM IS DON'T TOUCH THEM WITH A BARGE POLE !
I'm considering cancelling my direct debit with them and let them chase me for their "fee" ? It seems to be quite difficult to cancel a direct debit.. but that's another rip off story !0 -
It is not difficult to cancel a direct debit. I can cancel any of mine with a few clicks of the mouse on my bank's website.
You have to watch for the firm concerned attempting to reinstate (I'd check online every day for at least 2 weeks) but a strong letter to your bank if that happens should enable you to prevent that happening more than once.
Don't forget that the your bank is obliged to refund immediately any direct debit call which you say is incorrect. You don't have to prove that.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I have had a business line with XLN since November 2009 and I have to say the only good thing about XLN is the prices.
If you do sign up to them expect slow broadband in the afternoon due to too many users fighting for service. They publish contention ratios of 20:1 which is highly doubtful and at worst a blatant lie.
They will try to sneak additional charges onto your bill without notification. Two examples I have had; business assurance, this is essentially an insurance policy to cover repairs to your internal wiring; Non NGN surcharge, a classic where you get charged £3.00 per month for the pleasure of having a substandard service.
In both cases I had these charges removed and refunded after a long phone call.
I VERY RARELY SAY THIS ABOUT ANY BUSINESS BUT AVOID XLN TELECOM.0 -
I am being offered incredible savings by changing my business account to xln telecom. Has anyone had any recent experience with this company. At the moment I am with Opal and we are about to move premises so I will need new lines and numbers etc.0
