I made the huge mistake of moving to XLN last summer on the promise they would cover the cancellation fees for the remainder of my BT phone and BB contract. They didn't and after months of time wasting phone calls and emails, they finally sent me an email saying they couldn't honour their promise and I was free to leave. So I went back to BT with a new contract starting Jan 1st 2012.
I then received 3 invoices from XLN regarding service from Jan, Feb and March, a service they weren't even providing at that stage. After more time wasting phone calls and emails, the bills stopped. Fair enough, I thought, that's it over. But no....
I have now started receiving threatening letters, texts and phone calls from a debt collection agency (C.A.R.S.), looking for payment for bills that were a mistake in the first place. What can/should I do?0 -
XLN have sold the alleged debt on to a DCA. Their standard practice is to harass the alleged defaulter and make (nearly always bogus) threats of Court action.
Others on here are far more experienced on how to deal with then (will someone please do so) but, my gut reaction would be to tell them you will report them to the police for harassment if they don't stop their communications.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
If you say they'll be reported to the police - apart from falling over laughing, will intensify their efforts.
Pursuit of a debtor is fully allowed in the UK. The fact that the debt claim may not be legitimate isn;t really relevant, unfortunately, and the police are in no position to arbitrate - and neither will the CPS or PF who would need to prosecute, and that won't happen.
I was not aware that CARS purchased debt, I've only known them to act directly for their clients, so if you get XLM to agree their error, the calls will stop.
Your real requirement is to have evidence that XLM agreen to a no-liability waiver on your minimum term. This is your proof of compliance, and you'll need this either in writing, or in a recording you made at the time. You might try (in the absence of this) to call XLN for info on the call you had in thew hope they've actually marked it as a no-fee release.
Without this, you'll struggle!0 -
Hi
XLN has asked to respond. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the forum.
Hi Beastmaster,
Apologies about your bad experience with us.
What i'd like to do is get one of our service team to give you a call to see if we can sort this out.
Could you email me your name and account details to social@xlntelecom.co.uk and I will get one of our team to have a look at your account and give you a call.
XLNamyCould you do with a Money Makeover?

I had a number of lines with XLN Telecom for more than two years , and asked to have a calls package moved from one line to another, a minor change you might think. these guys used this as an excuse to put me back into a 24 month contract. I questioned this when the documentation arrived and was told that I only had to give 30 days notice to cancel. Even have a reference number for the phone conversation. So when I did move th number to a VoIP carrier , I'm slapped with a cancellation fee. I complained by e-mail got an acknowledgment of my complaint , and then nothing . Now I get a debt recovery company letter saying I owe £270 nearly 8 months later ! XLN Telecom dont even bother to look at an issue they jsut go straight to threatening letters etc . NEVER NEVER get involved with this company .0

We've recently moved our business line to a different supplier and this should have been changed from the contract expiry date however XLN have changed it from an earlier date which has now meant a cancellation charge of £199 + vat.
I've tried calling them and advising them of this but they said I have to speak to my new provider as tehy have made an error when sending the transfer over.
Do I need to pay this cancellation fee which is very high seen as though there were only two installments left or is there a way round this? I've now had a letter from a company called C.A.R.S chasing this money!!! Please help.0 -
Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I've just received an e-mail from XLN saying my cancellation fee will be £358.80!
I'm sorely tempted to reply with a simple 2 word response, but can anyone suggest a course of action to avoid paying this ridiculous fee? My original 12month contract began on 6th November 2009. I'm guessing they've just been auto-renewing it since then, as I've never received any notifications or correspondence from them other than bills.
Some previous poster mentioned something about auto-renewing of contracts being illegal - is this correct?0 -
* * * XLN TELECOM - BE VERY CAREFUL * * *
Anyone who is thinking of joining XLN Telecom. A word of advice...DON'T!!!!
I have just attempted to cancel my account with this greedy and extortionist company. I have 3 months to run on my contract which is £11.99 per month. They want £299.00 to get out of the contract even though there is just three months left.
I thought Virgin were greedy wanting £151.00 to get out of their broadband, but XLN Telecom take the Greedy prize here. So, don't join them as they own your line too.0
